So from what I saw on the I49 Starbound livestream you will need pixels in order to craft things that's kind of odd if you ask me.Why would we need pixels to craft stuff?I thought we only need pixels to buy things.
From what I saw, they took unrefined wood and turned it into wooden planks and then into a crafting bench. I saw nothing pertaining to pixels being used in crafting. Are we talking about the same crafting system here?
from the Yogcast play through at I49 the only thing i remember seeing that needed pixels to craft was the distress beacon. So i'm assuming that only a few things will require pixels just to create a money pit to remove currency from the game.
You mean here? Around 35:23 I see pixelsx200 on the bottom right of the GUI when he selects the furnace. Is that what you mean? I think that's likely the value of the item. You don't need pixels to craft for most items.
Pixels are basically ink for the 3D printers, which are used in the future (past?) to create things. The 3D printers are used by each and every race to make anything imaginable, so the pixels, which are the ink, basically become the currency of the universe, so they can be used to print things and to buy things.
Remember, Pixels are a currency AND the fuel for a 3D printer. They have already showed an admin-only item that can turn pixels into a ton of astetic items
If that is what you meant then that isn't the case. As you can see whenever he crafts something the number of pixels in the top right corner doesn't change And the requirements to craft a certain item are seen when you mouse over it, it would be rather weird if the pixels you needed for that item were displayed elsewhere Grzzz vlamer12
Just weighing in a bit here, but since the developers disabled features in order to hide spoilers and provide a fun and easy playing experience for I49, it seems entirely possible that the pixel requirement for crafting was simply disabled. Meaning that some items that are going to be relevant for a while like the furnace will indeed require pixels.
In none of the streams I've seen so far (including ones not at i49, and just devs) has crafting required any pixels. And it seems unlikely to me that devs would disable pixels for their own streams and more likely they'd just give themselves pixels. But as has already been said the pixels are a currency, and I believe at higher tiers you will have a 3D printer (didn't Tiy say something along the lines that the admin item was similar to something you could get in game?) and with that you can use pixels, instead of other materials, to craft things.
I think this makes sense, because we wont need thousands of rare stuff in order to craft good gear. Pixels are just going to be an universal matherial. (and currency at the same time)
Except, I think I read somewhere you have to break things down to be able to 3d print them, and the resulting object is inferior to the original.
