Hi. The feedback button brought me here, and I don't see a thread for this on the first few pages, but apologies if I missed it. That said...

I really dislike the fact that pixels are required for general crafting. I understand that it's another way to meter progression, but it feels very forced and artificial. It also forces me to farm monster kills, which I may or may not want to do. Additionally, it is extremely immersion breaking.

I really like the idea of pixels as 3d printer goo, but see no place for them in the general crafting recipes.

On an semi-related note, I would also prefer it if monsters didn't drop pixels directly, but instead dropped otherwise useless "monster parts" that you could reprocess to pixels in the 3d printer. Though I can understand not wanting to add that processing step for game-play reasons.

Pixels should be used for the 3d printer, and bartering. Not crafting.

yeah, i dont like how pixels drop from monsters. It just doesnt seem to fit, Although i dont mind the idea of a currency or using it for crafting.

All they need to do is tweak the UFO to make him easier. Once he is down, you are able to craft the next tier without having to use pixels (from what I have heard). Although some stuff on the anvil should be a bit cheaper.

I see no problem with it honestly.
Sure it doesn't make sense but it leaves the game more challenging.

Well considering 1/4 of your total count is lost on death, and there is no early storage bank (as far as a new user can find), I do find it overly frustrating.

Sure, it makes the game more challenging, but the same effect could be gained by increasing the other component costs of the recipes and tweaking the ore generation in the world to compensate. I don't have an immediate replacement for the death-penalty mechanic where you lose pixels (removing them from crafting would make death less of a setback), but I would be interested to hear about alternative ideas.

Now that I've had a bit more time to play around, I'm finding the collection of pixels to be somewhat less difficult than I did at first. That said, I still think they make no sense in the crafting recipes. Surely there must be a way to have a functional death-penalty that doesn't involve magic goo in all of my stone-age equipment?

The money loss is right from the Terraria book. It makes game sense, but that's about it.

While getting used to Starbound I noticed the pixels and thought of them more like experience from Minecraft. The major difference would be that there aren't enough sources to keep up with a player's progress rate. Eventually any player could easily die many times over and not worry, but early on, it's a grind barrier.

Besides, we are explorers and survivors. We aren't out to discover new life and murder all we encounter. Though that is a fun sideline.

Well think about it: How do you get re-cloned? You use pixels stored in your ship to recreate yourself! It makes perfect sense lore-wise too.
