Pixel Storage - "Voxel Boxes" are *not* the answer

What's such a waste of time? Program a blasted calculator and put it in the game that's all it amounts to. I even suggested both systems be in meaning you can still have the voxels.

    Apparently reading.

Let me explain it to you this way.
They make a bank. They have to code how it is accessed, how it works, how the client handles it, how the server handles it all from scratch and there is more to it than that I am sure.
Now they have to make the gui, the access points and on and on.

Or they can make a machine using existing code and guis and done.

Am I the only one who thinks it's actually kind of neat to be able to turn my non-block money into blocks? Maybe there could be recipes for specifically building stuff out of voxels, just for the sheer opulence.

Anyways -- I don't have a problem with the system myself. You're exchanging one negative -- the potential to lose a LOT of pixels from repeated deaths in a dangerous place -- for a different negative, in the form of some lost inventory space and the compression tax.

Interesting decisions are the lifeblood of a game.

Why not bank GTAV online style? "You have money on you and die, you lose money. So bank with your local friendly intergalactic bank. We only charge a 40% fee but what is 40% for your economic security?"

And none of that changes except the form the stored money takes. Which again I personally think would be best with both of them applied but apparently programming what is basically just a calculator that stores the numbers you put into it is harder than completely reworking the game according to some people. Who spent half the thread acting like the tax was what we wanted changed when that is not the issue being discussed at all I might add.

I rather trade inventory space and NO loss of pixels in the form of keeping ore on me and storing that next to my refinery.

Think of the fun Starbound could have with a mini internet client built into it. You could net trade with a town you visited so they send you your goods via your spaceships physical mailbox on your designated homeplanet ^_^

Or better yet I could drop voxel bricks on them via the new amazon delivery system.

What I meant earlier is that you already have your money stored in a non inventory space by default. That comes with the risk of losing it. The physical blocks are one of the intended downsides for being able to save your money from loss, that's why you don't have both options. What you're asking for is a compromise in the middle, which is fine but not what the developers want right now.

Each method has it's downsides and upsides as intended, subject to change through further testing. If you take away the "block penalty" what would you add to this other method? Banking fees that are taken out at normal intervals? Right now they want you to consider carefully which method you go with, not get the best of both worlds.

He like many wants 0 penalties.

Now wouldn't that be awesome? Little space quadrocoptors flying around delivering your goods and dropping them on your head. *Buyer beware, delivery may be shot down by pirates or fellow space adventurers.* lol ^_^

Yes a 40% tax is zero penalties. Your logic is flawless! If anything the "bank" version puts out a bigger penalty because you can't carry the item with you.

EDIT: Also it doesn't give a way to build with it thus also making the voxel version actually less of a penalty. But then again we also don't know if it can be used for construction but I would damn sure hope so because that's the only real appeal it has over the bank version.

I really don't see the point in moneysinks in this game especially if l am playing singleplayer. IMO if i'm putting the effort in I should be able to become insanely rich. Why hinder it?

    Off topic bro.

While I undestand that it doesn't directly relate to the OP's point, it was intended to be a response to the system in general.

@Wolfedg: I actually said it above. Games are about having interesting decisions, a series of positive and negative reinforcements (carrot and stick) that create a stimulating experience. Having to choose between two negatives in regards to the game's death penalty is the point of the system.

Not to mention that "what is the point" is a very slippery slope when talking about the act of playing a game. What is the point of playing this game? I could hack what I want into it. What's the point of hacking this game? I could hack together useful things! What's the point of just hacking useful things? I could build a hacking empire! What's the point of making a hacking empire? I should just trade stocks and become wealthy the usual way! What's the point of becoming wealthy? I can't take it with me when I die. What's the point of living?

    ... *BLAM!*

    Edited to combine consecutive posts:

There are other threads and the ability to create a seperate thread for that because otherwise people who don't read end up thinking that is what the thread is about.

And the OP is NOT ASKING FOR REMOVAL OF A PENALTY. The penalty remains no matter which of the three choices put forth here of Voxels, "Bank", or Both are used. So still off topic.

I was responding to Wolfedg, not the OP. My response to the OP is elsewhere in this thread.

Suddenly I want to build a house out of voxels. And I want to have voxel liquids, so I can swim in my money. Like Scrooge McDuck. MAKE IT HAPPEN DEV'S! :) :)
