what if the pet also had the same stealth ability's as you, it would give more help in battle. Anyway you play this game though it WILL be AWESOME!:sparta:

I'd think it would be cool is if your pets died you could give some of your health (which won't regenerate) to temporarily re-animate the pets so they can get back to your base of operations or space station, and get healed. Then your health can regenerate or come back completely.

Indeed. I don't know, I just like being on my own :p

It would be cool if the pets permadied, but if you gave them a special equipment item, it would teleport the pet to base to heal up, instead of having them die.

The equipment could be like a collar or something, and would auto-activate.

How about it gets " killed " you put it in your inventory and would take up a space you walk/ teleport to base then when you g in it automaticly gets revived.

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet in this thread, but they did mention us having the ability to revive other players, so I dont see why we couldnt use that ability on our pets as well. If so, then until you have the revive skill, pets may be best used as distractions or meat shields.

No, because you can't revive them if they fall in lava or acid. Pets aren't players and they are not that strong, so there shouldn't be any permadeath or revival. Pets should just go to their base and regenerate.

Well I figured that if they fell in lava, acid, etc, that they wouldnt be able to be revived there. but I figured if they died on land, you could revive them, maybe they would have a countdown timer or like 120 seconds to revive them or they are teleported to your base to be healed.

woah.. apparently "teleported" isnt a real word according to spell check.

umm, yea and if they fall into acid or lava and die, they are instantly teleported back to base.

than what's the point of reviving them on land, if they still get teleported after 120 seconds?

the timer is to give you time to revive the pet BEFORE it is teleported back to the station. You have to revive it in that time to keep it with you on the current planet you're on. other wise you'd have to go ALL the way back to your ship to warp to base, pick the pet back up warp back, then venture ALL the way back to where you were. Much less hassle to just revive in the time limit.

You make it sound like its a drag. There won't be such a hassle if you will be able to teleport around. Penalty on reviving them is too small, and going back to the station is enough.

if you are allowed to teleport back to station at any point, then the game loses like 70% of the challenge and survival factor to it. I honestly wouldnt enjoy this game very much if you could free-teleport. It would be very lame and easy. not a drag, you just take better care of the pets you have, and if you cant revive them, then you just continue without them. IF you REALLY want them with you, then you leave and come back. It would be up to the player if its worth the time or not. It's only a suggestion, though.

Instead of the pet simply teleporting back, if they reach a certain amount of health it should stop fighting and run away from the danger to a safe place where enemies can't get it. This is more realistic than a device the pet wears to teleport it to your base. The pet should still be vulnerable at this time so you have to protect it while it makes a retreat. Maybe you can even "train" the pet for at what amount of health it needs to make the retreat.
I'm not sure it could work if you are completely surrounded my enemies though.

I wouldn't really like it if you could just telport back to the space station. It would be better if you flew down to a planet on a drop ship or something like that then build a base, installed a teleporter and used that to go back & forth between planet and space station.
I read somewhere that enemies are going to be "walk-through" but you still take damage.

From the List of Announced Game Information, I believe you read this:

"Touching (most) enemies in Starbound won’t damage the player directly, instead enemies must go through an attack animation to damage the player."

Point is, your pet will be able to walk through most enemies to go hide somewhere as long as they aren't aggressive to it.

in terraria you had magic mirror and the game was still good about survival. The device that teleports you back would be like mid-game also. Going to pick up the pet and then going back isn't much of a hassle and a perfect penalty.

that's true. I guess that way it would be up to you to decide if it's worth teleporting back to get your pet again, since you would still have to get back to wherever you were on the planet, which could be 10-30 minutes away, depending on the size limit or lack there of for the planet you're on.

I'd personally be very sad if my pet was permanently dead when it got hit too much. As dumb as this sounds, I get attached to things easily, and I would be genuinely sad if my pet was gone forever. I very much like the idea of them being knocked out and instantly transported back to the space station, where you can't have them travel with you again until they've been healed.
