Do they suck? No clue. I do know there prices are outrageous with very little in the way of actual spec info. If I had the cash I would go with nfoservers anyday but that is just from experience hosting a few fps servers in the past.

I had decent service for a few days then it all went to hell. Constant lag spikes that resulted in the server shutting down. Once the server shutdown I would have to start the map all over again to be able to gain access for my players and I. Three hours later the same issue happened again. When I contacted them about it the said that it was the games fault. I find that hard to believe. I requested a refund and they basically told me tough shit after 5 days the contract is binding.

I have been renting servers for years and I have never had this kind of issue before. If you would like to think that because your server does not have issues and that this is a flame thread then by all means, enjoy your ignorance. When your server starts having issues and it takes 4 hours to get a response, don't come looking for pity.

Just to let anyone know who is interested I was on the san antonio, TX server.

The server client is horrible right now, it eats up RAM like crazy, if you don't regularly restart your server, it'll just crash and you have to reboot it. My server has an actual HUD on it that shows Ram/CPU usage, it CPU sits at a cozy 2% while ram slowly climbs until restarted or it crashes

For anyone interested I managed to obtain a refund from Multiplay even though the five days limit (which has no legal value) was passed.

I host quite a few Starbound servers for clients now. The server itself does use way too much RAM and CPU, but you shouldn't have crashing issues. It puts unused RAM into swap pretty quickly as well. If you schedule a daily restart your server should do just fine.

I have no idea why people complain about them. Their support for Starbound JUST started. You need to be more patient.

Why does anyone even need a dedicated colo for a Starbound server? Can't you just run it on your own comp if its for you and your friends, or are you trying to run games that support massive numbers of users at once?

Agreed. Not sure I see the point in this... the only thing I can think of would be to maybe keep your ip private so you don't have people jumping on your own hosted games with friends or whatever... but then again, if you share that ip for your rented server for public use, you'll have the same problem (with no way to manage players on a server, things can get out of hand - the biggest problem I see with public play). Seems like a waste of money if all you want is to play with friends.

Because my friends and I want to have a server that doesn't lag and be able to log in to it at any time.

Had some seriously bad results with them in the past. How the hell do you explain this error to customer support?

He was there laughing for a good 60 minutes, and the phones kept ringing non-stop throughout the house. It was terrible.

Why did this thread get necro'd? The gap between any posts from today and the last post before that is like three or four days. Which I don't normally mind, but this thread is pretty much pointless.

Me and a few friends played online just fine with my host. Basic server software and adminitrative tools only.

I'm pretty content with my server hosting. But for this thread, i don't quite know where the OP was heading with it. For things to work you need to have reasons of why it doesn't work.

    Please don't start this crap.

I don't agree with the OP, but really, this is the worst way to go about an argument. This kind of crap doesn't accomplish anything, it just makes you look like you've got no argument and rely on accepted fallacies and/or blanket logic. Which in turn hurts the arguments of everyone who'd otherwise be siding with you.

Either argue for or against the accuracy of a statement, don't screw around with the meta bullcrap.
