Right now, pets don't do much. They are adorable, you can pet them, and (I think?) they might count towards Grandpa's Evaluation. But haven't wanted to walk the dog? Play with the cat? Well I sure did. Suggestion: Pet fun! First of all, it would be nice to walk the pet. They only stay at the farm, bu I think it would be interesting to see how to dog reacts to Pelican town! This would obviously raise affection, and maybe a popup would appear if you haven't walked your pet in.. lets say, 30 days maybe? It would say something like: Halley wants to go on a walk. Halley of course, being replaced with your dog/cats name. My second suggestion are new items: Ball (for dogs) and fake mouse (for cats). If you interact with your pet while holding this, either A: You will be sent in a minigame in which you throw it and the pet tries to catch it, or B: The affection is simply raised more than just petting. Personally, I think the first idea would be more fun! This time the popup would appear.. in 15 days without play? My third suggestion is benefits. So all these suggestions involve you helping the pet, but this one is the pet helping YOU. The pets could be a moving-scarecrow. Crows won't attack where a pet is. Of course, this will have downsides to still make scarecrows viable. The radius would be smaller since they can move (4 tiles? 6?). Also, if we add something like wolves trying to take the animals, the pet might scare them away (I know that a wild wolf could also attack the pets, but...) I might add more if I can think of more (if you have suggestions for this... suggestion than please say) but for now, I hope you enjoy!
