I don't know where this suggestion should go so I'm putting it here. We are aware that you can capture many pets, that you can only bring 3 on a planet, and that they don't perma-die. Well how about a pet arena on your space station. One that you can design yourself, and be able to put any pets that you have on that arena, wherever you want to put them, and they will fight each other! Maybe you could also have NPCs and other players pay to enter (either the audience, or even the battle). So it would be a good way of making money. It would also let you compare pets. Maybe you can interfere in the battle and attack pets, maybe invite other players to fight with their pets. So pretty much it could just be a universal arena. This could lead to tournaments in starbound where you can have 2 pets compete (maybe more). Maybe a 5 pets VS The Kraken. Or something like that. Although you can't capture bosses. However we might get away with that, seeing as the reason they are uncapturable is so that you can't bring them out and pwn everything. BUT you don't necessarily need to be able to bring them to other planets. The boss could be transported to Space Station via some huge transport vehicle, and there it can be used for research, fun arena battles, or just downright collecting it because you can. (Actually, I think this should be in mechanics, is there any way to delete this thread and move it to there?)
This won't be added, but I can dream. I can't remember the game but I think it's something like AI War, where you pit your robots against another players robots and they each behave according to a structure you create. For instance, when the enemy is so far, do this, when health is low, do this. To have an obedience system like this where you pets can respond to queues, hotkey or actual movements in game, would be amazing. You could train your pet to deal with ranged attackers by timing their jumps with enemy swings/shots, time blocks with special abilities but go full offensive during the weaker attacks, etc. Your arena idea just created this idea in my head and I had to spit it out somewhere. I also meant that MY idea presented here won't be added, not your idea. Your idea seems very possible.
You know I see absolutely no reason that couldn't be added, your idea would actually compliment the devs ideas for pets to be combat companions quite well.
I'm honestly not very confident about the Pokemon creature fighting idea, mainly because you don't really control said creature, even if you do, would it really be that fun to watch your creature attack another single creature over and over again until it dies? Why not just kill a boss with guns and explosions WITH your pet? I'd say the games alternative for cock creature fighting would actually be having your creature help you in real combat, bosses, or PvP.
Yes, I agree... especially since forcing animals to fight IRL is kinda immoral. I know this is just a game, but there seem to be people who take everything seriously, like I can't make a punching bag have a female voice...
Agreed. Who would really want to see pets fighting each other? You cant control them, and it would be rather luck and stats, no strategy or any fun factor added.
You know... you COULD make it a betting matter, im sure Tiy might actually be for it considering his whole Pokemon inspiration for the pet system in general.
I had this idea first to be able to see which pets are better. Also who says you won't be able to control your pets?
I don't think it should be which pet is better and which is not, I think each one should have unique traits and abilities (Potop clings onto peoples heads, while another creature might ram into enemies), since not only people want a pet for combat, but also for looks, so each pet should be unique in attack abilities AND looks.
well they are tamed randomly generated creatures, so they have the abilities of the randomly generated creature.
I'm not saying better as in OP, I'm saying as in what I look for in a pet. Also I might discover abilities that I did not know these pets have.
