They had no problem with Terraria. I do believe there should be more blood, but Terraria-style deaths would be OK to me.

I think there should be a "normal" amount of gore. Not too much, but excluding it completely from the game would be bad either. As someone stated already, making it an option would be the best way to go. Basically I don't need blood in games, but it's just realistic to show it. It makes the world more believable and natural. Censoring it would be just silly. It could be turned off by default, so younger players don't accidently get shocked for life when the sweet little penguin gets smashed. ;) But, albeit from that, I don't think that Starbound will be the right game for an audience that is too young to see some gore anyway, regarding the complexity.

True, I don't think a bunch of 5 year olds will be playing Starbound, though judging by people's pictures in the forums, there will be white a bit of bronies :p. I don't have a problem with bronies btw.

I'm okay with exploding bodys like they had in Terraria, but I don't think we need more than that. I'm not against gore, but this isn't an fps after all.

I can't help but people misunderstood me a little, I never said a lot of gore, I just meant like the gore that comes out of them when they die have a chance to stick to you. It would go off you over time, when you leave planet or when you go in a liquid.

so like blood sprays onto clothing. ehh... I think that might be a little much for pixel side scroller. Especially if you add in the fact that they might want to make a damage decal for when characters and enemies are low on health. you won't be able to discern yourself from super meat boy for later fights.

well all it would do is replace a pixel with a red pixel or green or what ever colour blood came out of tht enemy. Also perhaps a limit on how many pixels can be covered in blood or the face can not be covered in blood so you can still see if your character is wounded .etc

Enable gore on - all cute critters explode in a cloud of giblets

    Kids these days always bloodthirsty...

Might as well rename the game to Gorebound

That sounds like an early 90's game that would be 'banned' (by banned I mean hyped) due to shock marketing, like splatterhouse or blood. I want to see some box art for that... When I think about it it sounds like a sequel to Carmageddon. Carmageddon: GOREBOUND!

Sure, because that's the way bitmaps graphics work.

Except it's not. No, really. It's not that easy.

In the other hand. As a designer myself, I think everything in Starbound points out that developers discarded blood and gore from the basis. The way characters and enemies just make 'pop' when they die, and also the fact they are designed in a very specific cartoon fashion . The only exceptions are the blocks styled after organic materials like brains, flesh and bone, and even in biomes with those, liquids are not "bloody", the nearest one to it being a pink liquid.
There may be rating reasons, or maybe they just don't want.

And for all those saying that in Terraria enemies and characters exploded with an acceptable amount of gore, there's the possibility that developers avoided it trying to distinguish Starbound a little from its beloved spiritual predecesor.

So, my thought are that developers simply didn't forget about blood and gore or didn't thought about it, but simply discarded it.

And I'm good with it. If I'm looking for gore (which sometimes I do) then I'll go for some Surgeon Simulator, the same way that If I'm looking for orcs and elves I'll go for some World of Warcraft.

I would be unhappy if they implemented a "gore" mode, since that just seems to be shock value and aimed at the teenage/young adult audience, to the detriment of the other audiences.

I would be even less happy if they implemented a "Persistent Al Gore" mode, because that would be a really inconvenient truth.

Why not just create a mod for it..
