People are going to be disappointed.

There is another theory which states that this has already happened.

 

Tell be about disappointment, I'm waiting for life to get out of beta.

 

I for one agree with the first post. The crash some people will have during Beta will be horrible. In fact we may lose a lot of people because of it. Simply because somehow people are always expecting a beta release of the game they want, and they expect it to be like the release version.

People have a tendency to not read games' official websites, and as such people will not know about the different beta tiers. THAT is why their crash will be bad, and THAT is why the creator of this thread has absolutely every right to be "worried" about a game he cares about.

 

Gotta love the hype, people always dream about what they would want to see in a game even if it's barely related.
Yet I don't think it's gonna be THAT bad, Terraria 1.2 was announced for quite a while before it came out and it still blew peoples heads off.
Still, there are some good points in this thread, there are going to be trolls, haters, fan boys, people who expect Jesus second arrival, etc.

But the devs are smart, I'm sure they're gonna slap a big, "THIS IS STILL A BETA, AND WERE ALSO GONNA IMPROVE THE GAME FOR AT LEAST 6 MONTHS AFTER RELEASE SO CALM YO TITS'' sign right on the starting screen, I know I would.

 

I'm trying to understand why this thread was even made.

Of course some people some where are probably going to be disappointed.
It happens with everything that shows signs of promise.
However the negativity doesn't help either way. Just serves to get peoples panties in a bunch.

It's also equally fair to say that there will also be people who will be pleasantly surprised by the game.
I'm guessing more of the second then the first because a majority of the future players of Starbound aren't on the hype train, and know very little about the game as is.

Yeah I'm beginning to doubt my loyalty if I play the first stage of the beta honestly.
It's like I want the best experience out of the box, rather than seeing it grow and improve and it wouldn't wow me as much.

Then again, I want to make this game the best as it can be, so yeah still going into the beta to look for some bugs and suggest things etc.

 

quick everyone let's immediately assume that the game won't excite anyone and the gameplay will be bland and won't keep our attention/feel worth the money we paid. optimistic beams of sunshine, aren't we all.

Hes saying not to flame disappointed people and be patient with them if/when they make threads saying beta sucks.

 

While simultaneously stereotyping and dismissing those people and their (hypothetical) concerns with his "Call of Duty" comment... It's like defending someone by saying "Don't make fun of this guy with the no legs, we can't all have a happy life!"

Seems more to me like one of those threads where someone tries to say not to think you're better than anyone else, to everyone else, while thinking they're better than someone else. These threads are just about as bad as the hypothetical "beta sucks" threads they talk about.

But you know, free speech and the like.

 

I'm all about keeping it real. If the beta sucks ass, I'm gonna say so. People's feelings or how hard the developers worked don't play into it... If it sucks, I'm going to call it out.

I know the running meme nowadays is that if you say anything negative about anything you're a "hater" and a "bully"... I find it all a bit laughable. No, not every person that criticizes the beta (is it even out yet? I don't know why I even bother asking anymore.) is a hater, and not some Call of Duty kiddo.

Nothing is immune to criticism. Nothing. Not you, not your favorite game series, not even your pet dog. You are not a beautiful and unique snowflake. Get over yourself.

Furthermore, if we can cut through the hype for a second... This game will probably be just what we all expected: Terraria in space, with some new features. Come on now. They're not reinventing the wheel... And I think once people play the beta they'll realize what they're in for.

 

This game has been WAY over hyped, there's not a snowball's chance in hell it's going to live up to those expectations.

That being said I'm still confident the game is going to live up to my own personal expectations, and I know I'll enjoy it, but people are going to bitch just for the sake of bitching, here's hoping chucklefish can take it in stride

That's not negative. I'm personally still excited, and I know I'M going to enjoy it but if YOU honestly think that people aren't going to complain and whine, you're extremely naive. This is the internet, even if someone was handed everything they wanted on a silver platter, they would whine about how the glare from the platter is getting in their eyes.

I think that if you haven't been up-to-date on every single daily update these past months and don't know very much about the game -> it will be very enjoyable.

But if you're like me, that you feel an URGE to know every single little thing, constantly checking up, researching etc.. Well that leaves very little feel of exporation and excitement from finding new things in the game when playing for the first time.
Because I know that when I played Minecraft and Terraria for the first time, the biggest and most exciting thing for me was to explore and find things out about the game.

Regardless of this, I think it will be awesome to play multiplayer with friends and such. Also to see what kind of mods the community will create.
