Helloooooo everybody! TheAvianLord here! I am facing the UFO boss and I'm wondering do you guys have any tips for defeating him?

Iron Hunting Bow. Copper armor. 10 bandages, maybe. Set up a small stand above the ground with 2 levels of long wooden platform. Be an average dodger.

If you want to melee it, use a shield and any melee weapon. When it dives down, equip the shield and then slash it.

Bombs work wonders if you can actually hit it. You only need about 4-5 of them to kill the ship itself.

I usually lure it into a valley to get it low enough then jump up the sides of the mountains/hills to get within bomb throwing range.

Build a massive ladder/layer cake sort of deal with platforms and dirt, summon it at the top and you can hop up and down all in between, he'll break some of it likely, but just move to another part, make it fairly largeish.

Whatever design you go with, emphasize captitalizing your movement and potential cover and you shouldn't have a problem.

If you're willing to wait a while, go down below to the depths of your planet and grab minerals. Unless I'm totally insane, I think you can reach up to Iron Armor at this current tier, which is more than enough to let you tank most of the damage it can do.

I recommend getting some mobility increasing techs, a firearm with steady firing rate or iron bow, best armor you can get and like 20 or so bandages minimum.

The Penguin UFO has 4 main attacks.

Saucer Crush: The UFO will attempt to teleport high into the sky and then crash down to earth, flattening you under the saucer if you're beneath it when it reappears. it will also smash blocks at the point where it lands. Try to stay out from under the UFO to avoid this attack.

Orbital Bombardment: Well, not quite orbital, but the UFO will move right and left raining blasts on the ground below. Again, you can dodge this by staying out from beneath the UFO, but if you find yourself cornered, you may be able to jump between the blasts as well - there's just enough space between each shot that you can stand unharmed.

Summon Army Penguins: This superficially resembles Orbital Bombardment, but involves a lot fewer shots. At the point where each blast lands, a Penguin Bazooka Soldier or a Penguin Tank will show up. Keep a strong melee weapon, like a hammer or dual shortswords, for dealing with these pests, as their shots can make it harder to deal with the UFO's own attacks.

Summon Mini-UFOs: When the Penguin UFO gets low on health (you'll know when it reaches this point as it will look banged-up and damaged), it will begin to periodically summon Mini-UFOs. While individually very weak, and their shots do miniscule damage, they tend to quickly turn into a swarm, and fill the air with a hail of tiny lasers. Since they have a 360-degree firing arc, and fly, it's both hard to hit them and hard to dodge them entirely. They have an annoying tendecy to block projectiles that you're firing at their mothership, and will happily take one for the team any chance they get.

    My Strategy recommendation:
Carry two weapons for this fight, and wear racial armor made of iron. If you can find a gun, use that, but if not, the iron hunting bow should serve you well. Energy Dash and Pulse Jump are tremendously useful for this fight. Dash lets you more easily get out from beneath the UFO, while Pulse Jump gives you the kind of vertical mobility needed to more easily hit it, as well as helping you clear the air of any mini-UFOs that are launched. Weapons with the Lightning special or burning/poison specials are handy in this fight, as both burning and poison inflict a lot of damage at this tier level before they expire (letting you potentially one-shot members of the penguin army or mini-UFOs even if your damage isn't great.) The lightning special turns your melee weapon into a ranged attack, and if you can get yourself level with the penguin UFO, you can both slash it and hit it with the lightning ball simultaneously.

Why does everyone suggest minimal equipment? Eventually they come on the forums to complain that the bosses are too hard. And they wonder why. :lod:

    On topic:
Iron armor, 250+ bandages (not required, but they come in handy much further down the road), iron bow (replace with sniper rifle if you get one) is best gear available. Find a very flat expanse of land to fight, and strafe left and right to stay out of boss's firing line. I also recommend dual shortswords to fight the minions it summons IF you are having trouble dealing with them.

Make a flat area (by flat I mean +/- 1 block, so you can walk over them), and then dodge a lot. The dash tech is really useful!
Also, if you shoot at it with the bow (or a gun), and dash at it with a DoT style weapon (fire/poison) if you have that.
    Good luck out there!

Dirt risers and bombs. 4 hits will do it. Risers help to get above the UFO and to provide cover from penguin infantry. Any other gear is gravy.

Main tip for any boss -- make an arena. Spread out layers of platforms and hard walls on the sides. Dash tech would be a further improvement.

    tall towers 25 blocks apart
    beacon in middle
    summon saucer
    climb up outside
    drop bombs onto it
you can trap it in with blocks across top

i like to have the first set of racial armor equipped.
find some red stimpacks(the green one would be great as well)
making sure that your ground is easily walk-able, the less jumping you do the better.
iron hunting bow with a heavy hitting 2-handed weapon.
unlike most people, i don't go bandages(they heal for so little.e, they do so little). i prefer racial foods! i play floran so making my food is possibly the easiest thing to do. "bone and marrow" i believe, is an easy meal to cook plus it gives a nice health regen.

it's definitely a much harder way to fight the boss but i like doing it this way.

That was how I fought the UFO, it was pretty easy, so I assumed it'd work well for others. Also, I was too assed to put time into getting stronger armor with that slow pickaxe.

    Arylin Subatomic Cosmonaut

I usually have the best armor for the tier by that point, so he wasn't really damaging me for much unless I'm really careless. If I have a sniper rifle by then it's straightforward, else I find a hillside and try to lure him lower so I can melee by jumping. Having Pulse Jump helps if on flat ground.

I actually killed it with the first bow I made....And a crappy quality sword...With no armor.
I was really happy with how I killed it...
The apex base I used as the battleground was not.

I managed to defeat it with no armour whatsoever, no tech, only one bandage used, a 'rotten annoyance' axe and the only building I used was a glitch 'village'. No ranged weapons were used either. It was quite easy. FYI I use the Avian race.

the difficulty of this boss has been drastically cut as it is much more in line with a tutorial boss level now which is no bad thing as unless you utilised some of the trapping techniques previously mentioned it was flipping hard before the update
