Penalties for Death?

    Yes... yes... that is a very very excelent point. Myself, though, i would choose something like depending on the WAY you die dictates how much stuff you lose. (Fall off cliff= alot of stuff lost) (swarmed my mobs= only a little money loss) (Airlock= all stuff lost)

    I think terraria did it right, except there should be 1 more difficulty setting in wich you lose all of your money/currency.

    For me the option from terraria.

    1. Nothing lost no penalties
    2. money... a lot of money drop to gound. ^.^
    3. the hard reality all item's lost(store at homeplanet/station bevor going on planet's for what else are chests?^.^)

    Hmm i say a monetary loss...AND, if the player dies a bit to much (like 5 times in a roll) - he/she could get a random debuff after respawn - For example >
    " Surgery Gone Bad " = Overall Health is decreesed by 10% for 2-3 min.
    [ I named it like that since...well I tend to imagine that when you get wasted, someone comes to your rescue and recuperates ya ! xD ].
    Or...
    " Head Trauma " - Research is 15% slower for 5 minutes.
    " Physical Fatigue " - Damage is reduced for 2-3 minutes.
    " Dimmed Eyesight " - Some attacks may miss the target. [ Duration 2-3 minutes]
    And so on...

    Interesting idea. I can't imagine a newly reformed body would be perfect right out of the test tube!

    Maybe a system similar to Terraria? A hardcore-mode and a normal mode would probably suit the most.

    Meh I personally feel that was too limited. It needs to feel scarier to just die even on softcore

    That's not a bad idea, I like the idea of getting some sort of debuff if you constantly die. [​IMG]

    well, money will play a bigger role in starbound than it did in terraria. so i guess that kinda makes softcore scarier.

    Yes... that is true... but the problem is, if you are "forced" to play a setting that even makes you to drop money... In my opinion, you should be charged a penalty depending on how stupid the death was

    Die on hardest boss- No penalty
    Killed by penguin- Computer explodes destroying your entire house.

    i'd say when you die your head explodes and confetti flies out

    A lot of the penalties depends on if stuff would even drop, or if it would vanish forever. For instance, if you dropped all of your money, but it would be obtainable for a certain amount of time or if you dropped a certain percentage, it would be gone forever.

    I recall hearing something about them just making you lose money on death, but I may be mistaken.

    Really hoping that the Survival difficulty and Death penalties aren't stuck together in a difficulty setting. -.- I'd hate to have to set the game to hardest to get the survival stuff, but if I died it deletes my character. So really hoping that it's a separate setting. As for the way it works. I don't mind losing cash, but it would be interesting to lose a bunch of items. Maybe you drop all your stuff except your hotbar and armor? Though this should be tweakable in settings.
