What do you think happens when you die on Starbound? Loss of money/items? What if the penalty for death gets higher as you go to harder difficulties? For example, you might lose a bit of money if you die on an easy planet, or a few items if you die on a very difficult one.

I hope they make it so you can choose kind of like how Terraria did. That way new players and veterans can have a challenge based on their level with the game.

    Hopefully it's like Borderlands death.

The more money you have, the more they take away.

So new players aren't robbed of their cash, and better players have more incentive to stay alive and not recklessly rush everything.

I like that but it might not work well if they have a type of banking system. Everyone would just never carry money on them. Or they could have enemies raid your home base and your bank when you die, so they take a percentage. I think it would be pretty cool to revive and see enemies running away from your base.

I hope they use death options similar to Terraria, although Maka's suggestion also sounds like it'd be a good one.

It's a bit early to be speculating about that, but:

    My bets are on that.

If they're doing Terraria-ish gear-based progression, then I hope that dropping your stuff isn't gonna happen. Those two concepts do not work well together IMO.

They could always give the player the option.

Much like the Softcore, Mediumcore and Hardcore modes in Terraria.

You only play hardcore if you want to rage at the game.

    Or if you're drunk.

I never play games that give high death penalty. For me, dieing and returning to a spawn point is enough punishment.

Which is why I think having differing death penalties would be a good idea. Not everyone likes losing all their stuff, whereas some people enjoy the challenge.

I like this idea. I think Tiy mentioned money being vitally important, so losing it would be a good penalty. And even if people can just bank their coins, theres a question of how accessible a banking feature is. If you can only bank stuff on your star base, then you can easily loose money on missions.

Hence why we are speculating on what it could be ^^

    If
    Bank -> Moneyloss
No Bank -> Spawn where the planet "starts"

Or, it could be based off of Sonic games, where you need to collect your money all again everytime you run out of Hitpoints.

I can't see lose all stuff a challenge. But, everyone have a opnion, if they like losing stuff, have fun.

"I've just lost all I have worked for, now I have to star all over again from the beggining....
    ...
    DOUBLE FUN!"

    Or something like that, perhaps.

Technically, you wouldn't "lose" your belongings. You would simply drop them.

So you'd better run run run back to where you died and grab them hehe

People like this... If they want I can grief all their worlds. They will love it, right?

No, they need to fail all by themselves.
