Peaceful and aggressive looking monsters

    Hey.

I don't know if it was already mentioned, but did anyone notice that if you see a monster and it looks aggressive, it is usually peaceful, while the peaceful ones will attack you?

For example, I recently visited a desert planet. These are the three first monsters I have met:

This guy looks okay to me, but he doens't liked me very well.

Looks like they're quite bored, but after they spotted me they tried to rupture me till they'd see my crimson blood leaking from my neck.

Afraid of all the deadly monsters I met, I kept walking and found this one:

Evil thing, huh? I prepared myself for battle, but he didn't care about me. He ignored me and kept living his peaceful way of life. I killed him nevertheless.

Seems like in Starbound you have to invert what is looking peaceful and aggressive. If you run around and assume that the normal monsters will attack you while the most evil looking one is peaceful, you won't be surprised.
In my opinion, it's okay that normal or cute looking monsters are aggressive, but it should be changed that the evil ones are not. For example, they could swap the behaviour of the monsters in the 2nd and 3rd picture – I think that would fit better. What do you think?

Because, if I didn't know it better, it would be hard to believe that these guys will let me pass.

I think everything looks like Pokemon, aggressive or not.

Wouldn't be all that random if you could tell if an alien was aggro just by looking at it.

I've found a friendly variety of the monsters in your second picture.

I've gotten into the habit of edging closer and closer to every new monster I see the first time I see it. If it freaks out, I kill it. If it's cool, I know not to piss my pants when I turn the flashlight on in a dark cave and there's like five of them right there.

I'm not sure if anyone has seen the skull face/mask monster varieties, but it seems to ALWAYS be passive. >.> I've never run into a monster with a 'skull' mask that was aggressive. (I think it's a rng option that can only generate on 'humanoid' monsters as well, as I've never seen a... properly quadrapedal one.

I saw a crocodile looking skull mask guy. Having observed the same pattern as you, I thought he'd be cool. He was most certainly not.

And this was still when everything one shotted everything.

Are you talking about the things that look super furry, and I'd almost describe them as sloth like? If so, I've seen hostile ones, my friend and I referred to them simply as Masks, and ran like hell because there were usually three more around it.

  9. This is just one of the things I'd like to see improved with the random generation.
Other things include color & attack depending on biome/planet.

THis is the 'mask' I'm talking about.

I've never seen a creature with that specific head be aggressive. (and I've seen a good 4 of them. >.>)

Definitely not what I'm talking about. But that thing looks like something born of nightmares.

Yeah, a preview of the game's state by a gaming journalist said something to the effect of '...the most hideous nightmare spawn tend to be absolutely friendly. Whereas the cutest tend to be apex predators.' lol

No truer words were put to text.

Good point, i'd like to see creatures native to their planets and biomes, like furry white Wampa beast mutant polar bear types on cold planets like snow or moons and so on and so forth.
Obviously not a pressing issue right now but something i'd like to see further on.

I think there's an aggressive version of that creature on the planet I'm currently on, actually.
