Really great interview with ConcernedApe talking about the success of Stardew Valley, his development process and also pointing toward the future, touching on things like DLC/Paid updates, Free content updates, Multiplayer and also apparently secrets that no one has found yet.

Fantastic read, I urge you to go check it out:

aaw this part is so cute:

PCG: But you were fixing people's corrupt save files manually. I think that goes above and beyond the call at that point

Mean wow that is so thoughtful, sure it sucks went it happens but he dont need to go that far for us.

Really nice interview. To extrapolate on a bit that they talk about

PCG: Were you expecting this sort of reception?

EB: I wasn't, no. I mean, I thought it would be popular with people who were fans of Harvest Moon or Rune Factory, and I thought that would pretty much be it. I never expected it to have such wide appeal. I mean, I'm super happy about it and I'm blown away by the reaction, but I'm surprised too.

I think in retrospect the success isn't that surprising, many of the elements that Stardew Valley consist of have been core concepts of other successful games over the last couple of years, I think primarily of the survival genre that has grown from DayZ and Minecraft, except Stardew puts them in a more relaxed setting than survival games and has a more focused progression than Minecraft, as well as having a (somewhat) living world around them instead of being all alone. After all, one of the most common complaints I have seen about the game is how the illusion of life becomes shattered after marrying your preferred partner.

Of course, the incredible attention to detail, the completeness and depth of the game and simply human feeling the game emanates all serve to just reinforce these points. All in all just great!

Of course, but as CA said himself, there simply isn't anything like it on the PC, except of course Farming Simulator, which also has had a surprising level of success...

It's that crippling loneliness that eventually drove me away from Minecraft. It's haunting and uncomfortable, and adding things like villages didn't help because villagers have no real personalities, they're just slightly more interactive animals. (And, of course, multiplayer doesn't help because multiplayer is habited by Real Humans, which are far worse than animals.)

I can't get the "next page" that they talk about on that article... which kinda sucks as it has the "what's coming" part of the interview.

There's no "Next Page" button, and I'm not loading 20+ scripts (most of which are probably adserve anyways) to find that ONE script that's hiding the "Next Page" button.

Wish people would just use good ole HTML instead of scripting everything....

Funny part is, his Harvest Moon clone really took Harvest Moon concept back to it's roots and personally this end product blows any newer and more recent harvest moon game literally out of the water like a Battleship vs a Patrol Boat and the Patrol Boat wins. This game has stayed more true to what made Harvest Moon so fun for it's fans than Marvelous Entertainment has done with the very franchise they created. I mean they have man power, money, resources, and their games just feel lack luster, in fact the past 2 Harvest Moon games by Marvelous have felt more like My Sims with Harvest Moon theme thrown on them than a Harvest Moon game. It's that bad now days.

Mean while this feels like Harvest Moon SNES combined with 64 and BTN into some awesme entity of greatness. lol

I never played a harvest moon or rune factory game so i was hesitant about getting it, but i watched the development of the game since i randomly saw the site while typing in google xD when it was released on steam it took me 2 days before my friends pressured me into getting it. So i sold all my CSGO skins and bought it booted it up and 2 hours later was hooked. I think what made me happiest about playing it was i can see the work he put into the game and i love it i ended up quitting playing the star bound run that i was trying to finsh and cs-go. also haven't slept in two days cause of the game someone get me to rehab and a bed. All in all i was really happy to read this interview i have a lot of respect For Concerned Ape He has inspired me to try and do something with my life... after i finish maxing out all my skills collections Achievements and woo all the Single people!

Go down to where there are the three numbers 1 2 3 and click the left arrow next to them.

Those numbers are not showing up for me. I assume they are run by script for some weird reason. I scrolled all the way down to the bottom, no numbers, no "next", nothing. I tried allowing just pcgamer.com but then 15+ other scripts pop up as soon as I did and I'm like "LOLNOPE".

                                  EDIT:

Yeah I agree with you on the last Harvest Moon game (Story of Seasons)--loved the art one hundred percent but some parts of it felt very unpolished (how could one not put a 12hr format time?
I mean sure everyone knows 24hr time but not everyone is used to it or can adjust to it fast--I had to do conversions in my head to 12hr a lot. Also the characters felt even emptier than before--even my younger sister whose played all the Harvest Moon games along with me says it's kind of a bland game.

But anyways I digress--I've played the old Harvest Moons and I loved them, so I'm glad Stardew emulated what they were and added more to it to make it better. I'm personally absolutely vibrating in my seat at anticipation on what's next.

Also hey I saw that interview and yes he is a cutie. Don't mind me, college schoolgirl with a crush nosebleeding through.
