The ability to pause the game in single-player is almost a must-have for me. I am married and my wife is not a gamer, and she is not always super-understanding when it's dinner time or she needs me for something but I am under attack, or freezing to death, or need to eat something, etc., etc. Please, Chucklefish, contribute to my chance of long-term marital success and add a pause feature for single-player!
I completely agree with you on this. While my GF is a gamer there are things that arise during the da that simply can not be left unattended and without a pause feature I have to run...literally...and hope im not dead by time I get back.
Pausing is definitely a necessity for ANY single-player game. It is especially annoying since quitting and reloading seems to have a bit of instability and (at least for me) unreliability at this point in the beta. I'd really rather just pause than having to save and quit, and then potentially have the game crash on me come my return.
I completely agree, I like to play this game at work and when I have to go do actual work stuff my character dies from starving without a pause feature. And it takes me a solid 5 minutes or more to start up the game, so I don't like to exit out. A pause function would be awesome in single player
Yes please and thank you. An in-game pause ability for single player would be great! I don't necessarily think it is a necessity, but it would be a super awesome potential addition.( Yes I have a wife too, but it is just a video game after all.
completely endoresed. I understand that pausing is not doable in multiplayer for obvious reasons, but it should totally be possible in single player.
Also agree, I play while doing a few other things online so it sucks that I can never really focus on anything else lest I starve to death eventually.
Two things: 1) I totally endorse the need for pause: I will often have to get up and leave to take care of my two-year-old daughter, and having no way to pause is a big issue. It's particularly bad if I'm deep underground or far off on a planet, and if I die it will dump me back at my ship and knock off a bunch of my pixels I have tried surrounding myself with a little "dirt bunker" which is surprisingly effective, HOWEVER... 2) Please don't make me starve to death while AFK I often leave the game running for long periods of time unattended. I would really appreciate if the hunger bar "paused" it's decline while there was no player input.
I posted similar to this in the Mechanics board without seeing this one, hopefully they'll find one of them. Hitting esc in single player should freeze everything, including enemies and hunger bar. Having the option to tab out without that kind of pausing (for smelting, etc) is kind of helpful too.
A pause feature is important for single player games. You can forget it with multiplayer... but singleplayer... sure... do it! Whether you have a casual gamer... family... work... toilet time... it always makes sense a pause feature exists for a game.
The single thing bugging me the most about Starbound is the lack of pause in single player. It's simply not serious to expect people to play a game all alone being unable to pause. I'm not a 15 years old kid with 4 hours straight of free time, and if I'm going to have to feed my character ever 2 minutes I can't even take a shit, answer a phone call or do anything without getting starved or devoured somehow. If this bug is not solved I'll be unable to play seriously and recommend Starbound.
+1 on this. I'm frequently interrupted while gaming and it really ruins the experience if I can't quickly pause the game. It's pretty much why I can't play MMOs ever.
+1 Something to be aware of though is that hunger does not decrease while you are sleeping, so if you make a little box out of blocks and put a bed in it, and use the bed to make your toon sleep, you can stay there as long as you want.. temperature is a factor though, so if it's day time when you do it, and you can't survive at night without an external heat source, you'll still die.. ...not that great an option if something is trying to eat you at the time, but better than nothing. ...you might also be able to use speedhack software like Cheat Engine, and set the speed to 0 to kind of make your own pause button. This is dependent on which aspects of the game (namely, NPC's / hunger / temperature timers) are client side, as that kind of "hack" won't touch anything handled by the server... so if you lock your character down, and the monsters trying to kill you just snacks on your frozen soon-to-be-corpse, then that route won't do you much good.
+1 this is a fundamental feature must have thing. Using the bed on ship is a safest "pause" feature without hunger , freeze and dangerous mobs but its unhandy and i dont want do beam back to my ship anytime without a spawnpoint feature for now. This break my adventure wandering feeling. Using a cheat engine only for "pause" is stupid .. the devs have to implement this fundamental game feature..^^ anyway +1 and bump ect.
