The lack of a Pause feature makes Starbound unreasonably time intensive. Please, implement a Pause feature, allowing players to walk away from the game to address real-life needs, and allowing them to dive deep into the world over multiple play sessions. Perhaps a Stasis Pod is the most "realistic" way to implement this. I'm an adult with minimal time to play, but I love exploring Starbound. Without a Pause feature, Starbound requires me to give 100% of my attention to the game while playing. Walking away from the game consumes food, progresses the day/night cycle, loses body heat, and leaves me vulnerable to monsters and environmental damage. I can't get up to use the bathroom or stop to answer the phone without consuming resources and being at risk. Yes, I can "Save and Quit", but that eliminates all my current progress. A Pause feature would also allow longer exploration over multiple gaming sessions. My first night in Starbound, I binged and spent five hours exploring a massive abyss down to the blood-and-bone level. But in the typical one hour of gaming I get each day, I can't appreciate the depth of the game. Perhaps a Stasis Pod item is the solution to this. It could be provided to you on your ship at the beginning of the game, like the Matter Manipulator. Bring it with you so when you want to pause, you set it down and hop inside. Make it indestructible so monsters and environmental damage can't harm it. Make it tamper proof so NPCs and other players can't break in or take it. Fine, it doesn't stop the passage of time, but it does stop your food consumption, heat loss and vulnerability. Lack of a Pause feature really limits the amount of enjoyment people can get from Starbound, and even excludes gamers with responsibilities and real life to deal with.
This, so much. I‘ve died many times due to no real “pause“ function, and i think it would be very useful
its a good idea, I need to pause to make tea/coffee or cook/eat, a stasis pod to pause progress would be a nice addition to the game.
Sleeping in a bed supposedly pauses your food use. If you need safety from mobs, build a quick cage or return to your ship. Towns also tend to be pretty safe.
Do you still consume food when not moving? Once i took a break from the game, and suddenly remembered and rushed back to the computer in panic, only to find my hunger bar full.
when you die it refills your health and hunger bar. your char might have died and resurrected while you were away
Yeah. Because dying stops hunger. Maybe you should also check your pixel count, although I should add that I haven't died from not pausing since at least two koalas. Maybe it's different now.
