Yes I was thinking of something like that yesterday. Make things mathematically depend on each other. Self-resolving balance and stuff. I'd draft up an entire design document if I'd get any dev to take a look at it. But currently I'm concerned that they don't even care about this forum. Seems that reddit is getting more dev attention than this place.

It's like that right now, isn't it. Except it's not a planet but a system, but since there is absolutely no need to visit more than one planet per system, it's an interchangeable value.
A weapon you'd find according to my idea would be good for the planet level n you find it on and n+2 at most. You'd have a harder time beyond that point. But if that's what you want, you're free to do it. Otherwise just increase planet levels in 1 or 2 increments and find new weapons, that way you'll have a all the way smooth ride.

Okay. I've an issue where after closing Starbound, Steam says I'm still playing Starbound. When I launch the task manager and try to look for starbound.exe or launcher.exe (probably wrong names but I'll know it when I see it), it's not there. Wat do? I can't restart Steam because Steam will wait for Starbound to shut down and then tell me to exit Starbound first.

For some odd reason the upper tier armor is crafted via a regular wooden crafting bench.

Agreed. I'm not far in the game yet. I start a random fresh character everytime for testing purpose. But i find that the Tier 1 start is really good. Not too soft yet challenging at moment.
That said, i agree that the current level system kills ( in my opinion) the exploration. To have 245 gazillion systems and planets to explore (with the current level 1-10) but all the same is pointless.

I had thought about at least 3 levels of planets per sector. (so max level would be at least 30) I would prefer more (5 levels per sector at least) but it would be better than just 10 levels total as that does not seem to work good at all currently.
Its not too much fun as once you get a 2nd tier weapon your invincible on planets in the alpha sector. I ran around with dash and jumping and just shot everything with an iron bow and only died once since I fell to death.

Completely agree. Flying around lvl 10 planets, because there's better loot and more ores, whilst in almost no armor was so awesome.

Also I really don't like how expensive traveling is now, since wood no longer works. Earlier I could just cut a few trees, then jump around planets and explore, which seems to be the main idea of this game, but now I have to spend hours on boring grinding just to move somewhere.

Are you closing the Starbound launcher? Remember that it opens a splash screen first and then Starbound itself.

Alternately, just control-alt-delete, right-click on Steam in your task manager under 'Applications,' select 'go to process,' right-click the Steam process that highlights and 'end process.' That'll kill any program more or less anywhere on your system instantly, regardless of what the program thinks about it. Extremely useful tool, and it won't do Steam any harm. You'll be able to restart then.

Yea, I resorted to just force-closing steam altogether. This issue happened to me several times and it's getting a bit silly.

    Thanks a lot!

Yesterday I started on a planet where I had millions of trees - but less coal than diamond. Mining was close to impossible without light. :(

Personally I think the 100 levels was a much better system, just needed a little tweaking IMHO, now seems bland to even explore more than 1-2 planets in each sector.....

I understand lowering the level from 100 to 10 did not reduce the amount of content in the game. But the reduction looks to have shrank the scale of the content. Having one level planet per sector has stopped the need or desire to explore. Which is my main issue.

Once you get to your first planet in a sector let it be your starter planet or the first random planet you pick in your next sector. You are already balanced enough to handle that planet, which is great and limits frustration. But after spending two hours or less on the planet. You already have enough ore to craft the best armor for your tier and a weapon if you didn't find one you liked already. Which you might go to a new planet out of curiosity but I quickly got board because I already had every thing I needed to handle that level of planet with out any trouble. So why not grind for a little bit and get the supplies needed to fight the next boss, which boss fights are slightly broken if you know what kind of structures to build.).

For example after I beat the 2nd sector boss I went to the third sector more then happy to see what was there waiting. With in 5 minutes of walking the surface I had enough titanium to craft a weapon, and I also crafted gold armor. Then sadly the third sector became too easy. I went to 3 different planets just running the surface and exploring the dungeons on them. But I had felt after a couple hours that I had already done all I could in the new sector.

Having one level planet per sector has dropped my interest in the game drastically. I enjoyed the 1-100 and armor system a lot more. I think a tutorial or tool tips explaining would of gone a long way.

Edit: I just wanted to say I enjoy the game and as a developer my self I understand you guys are doing the best you can. Good luck.

im not liking the sector thing ... id rather it be a class of planet what sort of life it has if any the hazard cold heat toxic has atmosphere or not etc etc

for eg if its a moon with no atmosphere why have life at all but it would show as hazard! and high level because u cant breath and would be difficult to move around on the surface

maybe have O2 generation as long as u make a building and its sealed including the back it will fill with air and u add coal to the machine and it makes O2 for you to breath maybe make it deplete too and if u dig down thru the moon it will move out into the space .. like the water does ... if u open into a vacuum it gushes out fills the area up if its a small pocket but on the surface it just shows a little white gush at the point of exit and disappears ... would be a awesome hazard and u dont even need monsters ... but having loads of useful ore under ground would make for a gd reason to visit a place like that maybe having unique ores too on these types of planets

maybe have a space suit as standard that has 10 min of air and maybe have upgrades to it to increase it later on ... have it like a battery that fills up from air in the environment if you come across any ... also this could be cool for just digging on normal planets too having gas pockets that could explode or kill u if u dig into them ... why should it have to be just liquid

the o2 gen could be upgraded to terraform a planet too maybe ???

maybe when u add plantable trees etc it could also add to things like this

I hated the armor pen system because it meant a weapon with armor pen x is really good up to x and okay up to around x+2, after that it's garbage and you could barely kill anything with it. It just felt like it was a bit too extreme making a legendary weapon one-shot everything in the alpha sector, but then utterly useless compared to even common beta weapons in even low beta levels - it shouldn't be that powerful on the planet you get it, but should at least last longer than that.

I really liked the idea of each sector having easy-medium-hard (maybe 4 or 5 instead of 3? And I don't like those words, too game-y) and hard being similar to the next sector's easy. I would imagine that a common weapon from a given difficulty would be capable within its own area and usable versus regular enemies within the next, a legendary weapon should be strong enough to still be usable even around the next sector's same difficulty imo.
