I have nothing against wipes in beta, if they aren't that often so you cant't test higher Tiers, but how will this work in the Final game? If they add Contend will that mean, that only new Chars could get the "Update"? There is a pretty well known Sandbox Game written in java, where you need to create a new Game (and Server!) after nearly every bigger Update. (if you want to have the new Contend) Starbound has this massiv "UNLIMITED" printed all over, but recreating a new char for every new Update would not be that Unlimited.... Again to clariefy I'm not talking abou Beta wipes, I just wanted to know how this will develop in the Future. Because I'm not a good Programmer, but maybe tweek the engine that it will be possible to alter things on existing Chars as well. Having to recreate the MK2 Cores etc, to get the actuell Updates working would be no Problem, but with Blueprints and Tech connected to a fixed Character there is a Problem (at least for me). My Suggestion is to make Blueprints and Tech "Recraftable": If you know a non Standart Blueprint or tech you can make a copy of it for another Char. (could be Expensive and only available at higher Tiers but would solve this Problem). Please correct me if there is such a mechanic allready discussed or even in Game. Ans Please also mind my bad English
Well, a fair round of applause for addressing some of the greatest concerns about the last patch. SO far I have to say that I have no complaints about the balancing of combat. Some minor tweaks here or there, sure, but no glaring deficiencies that I've seen yet. When it comes to objects in the world though, I don't think I've come across a single large stasis pod that hasn't insta-gibbed me upon use ever since this last patch. I can deal with that though, I just won't use the stasis pods as I come across them. I mean, its not like I ever really used them before so its not going to be much different going forwards. I do have one suggestion, however. Allow us to delete our own characters normally. And a character wipe would have been fine in my books. There was enough extensive re-balancing to have warranted it in my opinion, but that's just me.
It is a Beta and some are working on balancing another an the crash issue you need different people for different jobs. Balancing change is a another job than to fix crash issue.
I immediately felt all of these changes the moment I loaded it up, and I am very pleased. I can leave my house without fear of being Zubatted to death by fliers. My biggest thanks to you for that one, over all else. (But all of it was pretty darn good, namely knockback and falling changes)
I don't believe the two are in competition. A low-level programmer who can deal with the crashes probably isn't involved in tweaking the content.
Yes, this is strange, I couldn't delete characters manually. After about 10 minutes tinkering on the character build screen I regret having a mohawked slouching man ape with red shirt and blue pants... I want a mohawked slouching man ape with red shirt and a matching red pants. Yet, I can't undo my mistakes by deleting the character. It still there occupying my third character spot, mocking me silently with its existence... Scarring me mentally with its mismatched template.
Tiy stated in the official beta post, that during beta stage 1 there will be many updates, nearly once a day. So you have two options: Disable auto-update in steam and play with old versions (you can update if you think an update is worth the time to download it), but than you won't be really helping with testing and you have to life with the bugs. The other option is to wait for stage 2. This will take some time, so you would need to wait for a few weeks (maybe months), but in stage 2 the update cycle will be slower. The game will be more stable, more balanced and less buggy by then, too.
Seriously, hug the guys responsible for the latest fixes. Made it so much more playable with the tighter balance and birds NOT eating me every two seconds.. Though I am still getting one shotted by elites in best armor of the tier >.> Might need to look into tweaking their damage a little.
OMGZ It's happening ! Hope we'll get the ability to bind additionnal mouse side buttons too, would be so much convenient for inventory management x).
