i always wondered why developers even TRY to make an accurate guess as to when they will release content?

Why dont they all just overestimate and say " it'll be done in 4 years" even though they believe it can be done in 2. Then we can all be happy!

People are never happy, even if they could give a firm date and hit it every time, there would be some who would find reason to complain

like everyoine i have been scouring for the slightest titbit that might just point to when its going to happen.
I have come to this conclusion,
it MUST be imminent ..."why" i hear you ask
well the total lack of feedback from anyone today implies they are all working their collaborative butts off to try to get it finished.
i have faith and i believe..... in "the giant uber penguin of oblivian" that it will happen soooon so yah boo sux ..

We're all stalking the forums, twitter, and reddit looking for breadcrumbs... Feels pointless to actually play the game today.

Wondering if I should empty my mods folder before the update.

I agree. I haven't really put much time into my characters when the final wipe was announced to be coming in about a week. I agree with most people that a full patch with all the fixes should take some time to release, but the waiting is still tough.

Someone earlier had pointed out, when announcing character wipes, there is no "good time." If they say it will be Friday, but it actually is Monday, then some people will be upset because they thought they had 4 more days to finish and screenshot their village. If they say it will be Monday, but it actually is Friday, people will be upset because "You promised!"

If they say it will be Monday, and it actually is Monday, no one's happy, and no one's mad. This is one of those systems where the best possible result is no change...

not too put too much of a downer on the day but it is 6:39pm here in the UK and given that the usual finish time for work is 5:30 i reckon unless the patch is deployed in the next 30 mins (to allow for late working) it wont happen today

I certainly don't expect the patch today, but on the point of normal work times. Indie studios and across the industry there generally isn't set "work hours". With indie's they pretty much keep their own hours and could work 12-18 hours if they feel compelled to do so. Given that a lot of the starbound devs are working from home they can pretty much work as they like within a 24 hour period for as much as they choose, wish, need to. They could be pulling all nighters to get this done for all we know

I beg to differ, at this point with the success of sales thus far, they're probably sitting on stacks of cash, not behind the stacks of cash

Even if they did it wouldn't matter, their ETA is rarely even within a week of being accurate.

Key fact in reality is -never.- Hasn't happened. Won't happen.

We all just need to remember to ignore their ETAs, ignore their "here's what we're planning on," and just take however little we get in however ridiculous amount of time it takes to get it, because at the end of the day they don't seem to have any idea what they're talking about when they tweet things like this. Realistically they should probably rein in the false information a bit but I don't think there's enough in-house organization to do that.

To clarify, all we're really hearing lately is that it won't include things we thought it would (like ship updates) and it won't be out today (or tomorrow, or probably this week). Can that be explained by the final wipe? Probably. Can anyone explain how they got this far in development without characters already being backwards-compatible? Most likely not.

Jeez, is someone still pissing in your cheerios? I thought you found them days ago, yet you're still unhappy.

Simply because their ETAs are not accurate to your liking (or other peoples) does not mean that they are 100% useless. You're only thinking in extremes and hyperbole, and that's really not a good way to go about this. They gave an ETA because they wanted to inform the playerbase as soon as possible, but unfortunately it wasn't going to happen.

Would you rather that they never talk to us unless they are 100% sure it will happen? Do you know what that would be like? "Hey guys, patch is now released and ready for download." That's the only time they can be 100% certain of the patch releases.

I'd like to know from you what you would rather have. - A buggy Patch which causes more Problems then it solves, just so they meet their Estimated ETA, or a Patch that Includes a bit more Content and less Bugs by letting them go over the ETA.

    I'd easily choose the second.

I'd prefer to have updates/patches with character wipes come unexpectedly and mercilessly. Cause I'd rather play blissfully enjoying the game till update, instead of holding off playing because why bother if it's going to get wiped and wait in tense anticipation for a patch.

  18. Jbeetle

kinda pointless to say at this point since it won't happen again.

The devs did leave open the possibility for another universe wipe, though.

  20. Jbeetle

    Jbeetle Oxygen Tank

True. They also left open the possibility to include a way to prevent that in the next patch too. and of course there's always the chance that both could still happen after the fact, but I'm going to act as sure as they seem to be acting about it until proven otherwise :p
