And yet an estimate is the auto industry is a binding amount unless the auto dealer has notified the customer that the new estimate/price is going to be higher and gets their authorization. So when the dealer says they can fix my car for $5268.72 they are stuck with that even if it's going to cost them more. However they too can get out of their estimate being wrong by simply saying, "our estimate was based on what we initially saw wrong with your vehicle, and once we dug into it we found there was going to be more parts and labor necessary, so we'll do what we said we would for the $5268.72 but if you want the rest done, it will cost you more".

Or the landscaper that I had over to my house that gave me an estimate for $2450.00 to lay down new sod in my yard. Then I get hit up saying that "it will be an additional $975.00 because you have more square footage in your yard than we had put in the estimate" to which I replied, "But you already gave me the estimate to do my whole yard at $2450.00" to which they pulled out the paperwork and said "No, what we gave you was an estimate to do #### square feet of your yard, but you really have #### square feet in your yard, so it will cost more to finish the job or we can just do how much we gave you an estimate for".

Come to think of it, estimates are bull pucky.

We are currently in stage 1 of the beta, where "Updates will come thick and fast, sometimes as often as multiple updates a day." according to that news post.

Like saying "by the end of 2013" maybe? I'm sure that would cause no problems at all.

 

By not exact I mean telling people "patch x nearing competition" rather than "patch x should be out in a few days".

 

Honestly, people are going to make assumptions no matter what. "OMG, you said it was nearing completion TWO DAYS AGO, why isn't it here yet!?!?!?!?!?!"

I do think that Chucklefish should try to be a bit less optimistic with their estimates (externally, anyway), because managing expectations is one of the most important parts of project management.

 

To everyone freaking out, go check on Cube World updates for me please.

With this patch they couldn't win in any case. If they said it would be another week and it is ready tomorrow there would be complaints from people saying they did not have a chance to take the screenshots they wanted before the wipe.

Time to just let it all go and let the patch happen when it happens. Zen and the Art of Early Access Gaming.

 

Oh man... Did you have to bring up Cube World...

When you mentioned it, I remembered the name but couldn't remember if I had bought into it or not, so I googled up Cube World, went to their site, found that my password reminder software had a login for me so I logged in to find that indeed I own that game too. Now i'm bummed at the slow development process there. IS there any development on that even anymore? No, don't answer that, I just want to forget I even bought that one.

Reminds me of another slow one, can't remember it's name, probably better that I've forgotten but it was basically Minecraft with smooth voxels and really pretty landscapes (almost rivaling AAA game landscapes) and it had not just one sized of box voxel but many. Yeah... I haven't had an email from them in about 8 months announcing any updates.

Thank goodness for Starbound.

 

Starforge maybe?

 

Nope, not Starforge although I have that one in my Steam library too. The one I am thinking of isn't on Steam. It's on my other laptop that I haven't fired up in many many months. But it was pretty early in development last time I got an update notice so it was little more than the landscape, the ability to place and dig up blocks and lights but little else. Oh well, probably best that I just forget about that one too.

 

Sounds like Blockscape maybe? His last devlog post was in May of 2013, but that's not because they stopped. He's basically just been using their Facebook page as the devlog instead of the site. But he's still very active, as you can see by the number of posts on the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/pages/Blockscape/335553083150079

 

TUGS maybe? Haven't seen anything on that in a while. hmmm....

Seriously, if you think it's going to be done on Monday, say Saturday. Don't dash everyone's hopes like this.
