the reason its stopping me is the planet reset. doesn't do much good to catalog whats there when it will be irrelevant later on.

Still waiting for the patch, it's totally coming today, without a doubt, today the patch will be released, after all, they said Monday, and it's still Monday. Monday patch.

Why won't you all let this thread die?

Dive in and go crazy, knowing you don't have to catalog anything, and that no matter how bad you screw up, none of it really matters. The impending wipe gives you absolute freedom.

not to sound philosophical or anything but, i notice alot of people are not going to play because they want to wait for this impending wipe to be over with...you do realize that one day you're going to die, does that mean you should stop living just because one day you're going to be 'wiped' ? just go with it and have fun. you never know when your final wipe will come.

The city of Washington, DC, is closed for inclement weather, so this is clearly a sign that the Starbound patch is coming today! Make it so!! :pwease:

That's all well and good in terms of comparisons, if the update was happening in a number of years, or even months, but it's a matter of days and perhaps hours. People don't want to have to repeat having to start again twice, because that ain't fun.

If I had a rough idea that I was going to die sometime this week I probably wouldn't start building a house or car :)

Here's a handy (hah) watch for reminding you of your mortality if you want to pine over it:

I'm delaying gratification by not playing a video game not throwing myself in front of a bus because I'm paralyzed by existential dread at the thought of my own mortality.

we're waiting not just for a wipe, but a reset...your logic is slightly flawed...if the game were to cease to exist tomorrow, i'd be playing the hell out of it today.

so if my life were getting reset tomorrow...i'd go mental, knowing my actions have no concequences or impact :p but with a game, the opposite happens...why play when my actions have no consequences or impact? :p

    Because it's fun?

    It is fun, isn't it?

Not when you know everything you've done is just going to be destroyed. It's like building a sandcastle, yes you know the tide will one day destroy it, but it still ruins your fun when someone comes and kicks it over.

ok so i was being a bit melodramatic with my previous statement. but i'll continue to play none the less...after i have some coffee :coffee: cheers

What about the fun you had while you were building the sand castle? Does that kick nullify the fun you've already had? Or do you only find fun in the having and not in the creating?

I'm still having fun playing Starbound, just because I enjoy playing the game. The permanence of the things I create is fun too, but it's not the only fun thing in the game.

i guess i haven't been playing long enough for the game to grow stale on me (never managed to make it to the highest sector yet), so i will keep on playing, wipe or not, patch or not. :)

oh i'm not saying anyone shouldnt play...its a fun game to play after all :)

I could play for just for playings sake (its a game after all)...but i want to achieve something whilst im playing...like my epic multi-race multi-planet super base im planning for all my characters...If i start now, only to have someone come along and erase it all...the frustration might outweigh any enjoyment i had doing it, which would make me not want to start it all over again :p

    but thats just me :p

    volvoV70guy Yeah, You!

I keep putting off playing in anticipation of the patch... But by mid-day or so I can't take it any more and have to play. Anyway, who knows if the patch will come in hours, days, maybe even not this week? It's worth it to have fun even if everything will be gone. I've been passing the time with Audiosurf, it keeps me distracted and not mashing F5 on Twitter and the SB subreddit.
