I personally don't mind if a monster's coloration doesn't fit entirely with a planet's environment. I would like it if planets with varying biomes had different spawns in each biome, though. For example, a forest planet that has half the planet covered in snow, having different monsters spawn in the forest and in the snow.

I like the idea of burrowing mobs.
or one that lives in liquid and grabs you and throws you in it.
e.g. at a beach a squid grabs you and throws you into the water where it is stronger and faster.
a poison swamp enemy does the same.

or a Mob that eats you, and you need to attack to escape (it can inflate when your in it to set it apart from the rest)

I say give some monsters a stronger body slam attack--maybe different parts of the body can include this and with enough unlock this more powerful form. This stronger form would create a shockwave that, while not being immediately harmful, would knock the player back if touched, and the creature itself would do a good deal of damage in a smaller AOE just around their base. Possibly even let them damage blocks.
Block-Allow the monsters to put up a guard of there own that has a chance of negating low enough damage like a player holding a shield can.
Familiars-Let some smaller mobs be able to boost the power of other nearby mobs-these ones should spawn alone, not in groups. If captured, they can boost the power (especially psychic power) of the player. They should clearly have a unicorn horn or a wizard hat like appendage to get this trait.
Psychic shields-The ability to create some sort of orb or cube or whatever shape around them, and a few of them at that, which will absorb the damage if the attack strikes them as well as the mob.
Agressive Psychic Shields-Same as above, but instead of absorbing damage, simply counter with a psychic attack of their own when hit. This could range from healing the player, healing the mob, zapping the player, spitting out fire, turning to a solid block, etc.
GOBLIN PUNCH: The ability to run up to their enemies (player included), kick them low below the belt, and send them flying. (Yes that's a reference to 8-bit theatre)
Speech imitation: some creatures, especially the more passive/friendly ones, could start to learn to speak a bit (at least, through imitation) after hearing a player or NPCs talk. Wild editions would share their knowledge with their kind on that entire planet, captured ones would share it with other captured talkers. They could use a random bit of pieced together speech (ala Python Bots who can learn to speak on IRC) to respond to people, or just to say random stuff to break the silence.

    Heartstrings Giant Laser Beams

Monsters that attempt to dodge bullets/weapons, and only attack every once in a while.
Even better, monsters that aren't actually monsters in that they're peaceful, and do actual things besides just aimlessly wandering around.

Okay so I have come up with a few more ideas
enemies that freeze water they walk on
enemies that can burrow (Im pretty sure this has been mentioned: The enemy would not destroy the ground but damage blocks It travels through, it would travel in an arc towards the player unless the player is underneath it, then it would just go down at you)
enemies that cleave the area horizontal to them (left and right); this would also cut do damage to trees
rocket jump, the enemy would creat an explosion at its initial location, jump at your current position, and create a shockwave on impact. This would deal lots of damage to blocks. (examples - jetpack, rocket boots, probably a more si-fi monster)
self destruct, the monster or enemy would detonate upon dying, or finish it self off after a few seconds upon being at low hp (Either almost kill it and run, or kill from afar: killing it with a melee weapon would be sure to hurt you)
throw, an enemy with big hands would lunge at you and upon contact throw you up into the air. Besides taking potential fall damage this would mess up you fighting or put you dangerously close to birds
vampiric enemies, they would ummm, steal your hp upon dealing damage. This could also be its own attack in where the enemy would grab onto you and slowly leech health, this would slow your movement as you try to shake it off of you

All this talking about monster color is annoying, and in my opinion, off topic.
but it did give me an idea
after being hit by maybe a sonic wave, or stared upon by a swirly eyeball, or having a pocket watch waved in front of you, you character would get epilepsy! changing the color scheme dramatically. On a more violent note, that water might actually be lava... told you. :fireball::rofl:

I'd like to see splitter enemies who divide into weaker enemies on death or self-destruction. Also, enemies that have semi-autonomous drones attack.
Perhaps an attack that scatters spikes or caltrops?

It would be cool to have an elemental touch to the monsters and game. Example: You're on a lava based planet and there are fire based monsters. You need to craft lava armor to explore/adventure effectively. I hope that makes sense

I'd like to see some rare extremely fast birds that may or may not attack but they would swoop across the screen and if the player were to spot it and react quickly enough they will get the kill and maybe a nice drop :3

Random and in no particular order:

-Monster attacks that don't do knockback, like a series of flame columns that emit a rising fountain of fire from the ground up.
-Monsters that attempt to "kite" melee attacks; hit and run types.
-Poison clouds that don't do knockback, but linger in place or flow with the wind slightly.
-Monster power-attacks that charge up and give warning before being released.
-Monster teleportation to trying and assault you from behind.
-Attacks that inflict some form of crowd control or status effect (stun, slow, weaken, slow attack speed, armor shred, impaired vision like darker screen, etc.)
-Ground monsters are mostly land dwellers that get short bursts of flight.
-Monsters with combinations of a variety of different attacks, making them less predictable and encouraging players to want to actively figure out how to adapt to a more dynamic situation.

Another thing I thought would be cool but kinda game changing... make it so monsters don't always do damage upon colliding with the player, but only if you get hit by its attack. That way, you can dodge attacks instead of trying to avoid touching the monster altogether. It would be fun to be able to anticipate the behavior rather than playing keep away or just doing the knockback method. Some monsters could have much slower, more powerful attacks that would be easier to dodge that do greater knockback, while others could do faster series of attacks with 0 knockback. Something else that is pretty major: no movement during attack unless it is doing a fly-by shooting. Running and attacking looks weird... although the player can do it, this would give them an advantage and allow them to find openings in when is appropriate to go in for a swing.

FARM ANIMALS: Giant Sacs of Goo. Basically a goo-cow. Milk w/ bucket for gelatinous milk. Chicken. Nuff said. Please add hatch-able chicken eggs.

also, tame-able chickens or flying enimies, because they are kina overpowered( ie: staying out of range.) you could make tamed ones hard to catch or possibly halve tamed ones damage. Beats me. Keep up the good work!

    - a glowing tale or horn, glowing to hot, that you get dmg over time when standing next to it. the dmg aura should pass walls, making it much harder to kill monsters through tiny wholes in the wall. also the dmg ticks could even increase the closer you get.

I can imagine humanoid creatures (humans for example) with different weapon types (sword/rapier/katana) with different fighting skills like:defend, reflect, capitulation, charge, slash.
Mages can be also good. (Shooting phoenix emblames or another things like that.)
