1. Welcome to the Art + Literature sections! Some things to keep in mind:
    • It's a good idea to specify whether or not you're looking for critique from your fellow members. Please don't let friendly criticism turn into an all-out flame war.
    • Art and literature often deal with mature subjects. This is fine, but please keep in mind that we'd like to keep things PG-13. Don't let discussions get out of hand, and if they do, please alert a moderator.

Oh yes, tablets. Super awkward for the first week or two, but my goodness do i love having one now! It's not the same as drawing on paper, but it'll feel suprisingly natural after a while. The big difference? You can't really look at your hand while drawing on a tablet, and you don't get the same 1:1 motion to drawing ratio that you get with paper (unless you have like a Cintiq where you draw directly on the screen, but those things are super expensive). However, paper doesn't have ctrl+Z, and you'll find that looking at the screen is more than enough.

I do draw on paper occasionally, but i use my tablet far more often, since it's easier to undo mistakes and generally just dick around digitally than it is with paper. It's still a very good idea to know your way 'round paper though, since you can't always carry your computer and tablet with you (well... You can, but it's much heavier than a sketch book and pencil, and also requires power). It's also THÉ fundamental form of drawing, which translates to many digital things, although it comes with the disadvantage of needing paper or other similar things to draw on.

So no, it's not useless. :U

Unless you're going to draw professionally, it doesn't matter, work with whatever you like more.

As far as the feeling of paper, there are skins you can put on the tablet that simulate the feel/drag of paper.

"Good quality" tablets are $2000, paper costs like 1 cent a sheet, also something to consider.

I draw on my Sony Xperia tablet with Sketchbook Pro, feels about the same as my friend's really expensive "real" tablet.
