Introducing the Palron, 'Natures aggressive roadblock'
Ps: Disregard the poll, I posted too early and have no idea how to change it.

    { "Game play mechanics" (How do I kill it?) }
So you wonder, why exactly is it called a 'aggressive roadblock'? well gameplay wise, the Palron is mostly stationary on the area, it will not move around all the time and unless you or any other creature stays away from it, the palron will not bother anything. However, if you do get in it's range long enough (And you will most of the time) it will engage in combat, using three different combat moves to keep you at bay.

    1) combat tenticles:
As a basic move, the Palron will use two tenticles you keep you away from it, they have enough length to hit you far enough that swords cant hit it, but can be blocked by shields which stun it, providing a few seconds more for you to get closer to it and attack.

    2) Gas AOE:
Every once in awhile in combat, the Palron will stop attacking with it's tenticles and begins pumping out a gas that covers a few meters around it. The gas is highly toxic and will damage/slow you down if your caught in it, but the Palron is at it's most weakest here, so it depends on how much risk your willing to take to kill it.

    3) Grappling and throwing:
If your unlucky enough to be hit enough times by the Palron, it has a chance of picking you up and throwing you a distance away from it. This can prove dangerous if you decide to attack it near a large cliff face or acidic lake, simply keep your defences up to make sure this does not happen.

    { Weaknesses }
As shown in the concept above, anything fire related is dangerous to the Palron, however, it should be used cautiously as the gas that it uses can catch aflame and burn everything around it, including you if you are not careful.

Another weakness is at it;s gut, but like setting it aflame, it has it's own danger, since hitting it at it can cause it to rupture and send a more dangerous version of the gas in it's death, this has a few second delay, so you can move away from it before the explosion of gas. Smart players can use this to their advantage to take down multiple enemies by shooting at the Palron and making everyone else choke to death.

The Palron come from a planet called Intrig V that holds a mucky and acidic atmosphere to most creatures, covering around 80% of the planet is covered in a strange mucky material that creates a swamp like biome wherever it is in. Scientists and explorers Intrig V noted that the whole reason for this mucky substance is perhaps from the large population of Palron's, along with a mix of the fauna that exists on the planet. All they know is that the muck is highly corrosive to any organic and metal material, so any bases in the area need to provide regular cleanups to stop the muck rotting the buildings. Its also noted to stay away from the 'muck people' who live a tribal life on the planet, while they look like piles of slime that move, they can be very aggressive to outside invaders.

Due to explorers of space picking up Palron seeds , Palrons have been sighted on a number of worlds, slightly varied due to the different biomes they find themselves in.
    Skeleton Palron:
Only skeleton by name, these particular Palron's are categorised from groups that live on worlds with little to no air and organic material's. Considerably weaker than their cousins, the Skeleton Palron has a much greyer skin, shorter lifespan and produces very little gas to survive. They adapt to a more Venus fly trap style of life, where hungry creatures go to them. A quick hand is advised to cut down this type of Palron, since they are more likely to grapple and not let go.
    Rock Palron:
Found on hot planet's that hold a decent amount of organic material, this subgroup of Palron's have learned to adapt their skin's to a harder rock like material, compared to their normal wooden style skin they have. they are more likely to move about compared to the others, since food may not have as much material to digest, due to this, it's advised to keep heavy weapons to break through the skin.
    Bloated Palron:
Seen in ocean centric worlds, these type of Palron's are known for their thick guts and sluggish movement, possibly due to the large absorption of water. This subtype is known to expel much more gas than usual, but is otherwise harmless with it's tenticles. A few shots in the gut should handle it, though distance is recommended, since it's been suggested the gas inside can be more deadly.
    Giant Palron:
When a Palron is planted in a world with a thick atmosphere and plenty of vegetation, the Giant Palron can quickly dominate the surrounding area, changing forests into a murky environment where life is hard to survive. Explorers are advised to avoid these beasts as much as possible, as they can be up to 10 times the size of a normal human, while producing 20 times as much gas. If you are stupid enough to go against one, it's recommended to bring friends, plenty of gasmasks and a nice large flamethrower.

    Gasses and organic pipes:
Thanks to current research, Scientists have found much about the reasons that Palron's hold so much acidic gas inside their bodies, due to their evolution from a plant like species, the 'tubes' on it's body and head act much like a version of a tree, where the Palron takes in the air around it and converts it into a atmosphere that is much more suited for it to grow and reproduce. Also the same sort of air that the muck people breathe in, which could explain a symbiotic relationship between the two species.
    Digestive organs and feeding:
With acidic saliva that can break down anything organic, it is known that a Palron will eat anything it can fit inside it's mouth, however, smaller animals, water, sunlight and some plants are the main part of it's diet, depending on the food source, the Palron can adapt to the situation slightly (Read up on the 'types of Palron' for information on long term effects)
Once food is eaten, the food is absorbed of all it's nutrients to aid in a Palron's growth, while the waste is cleaned out through the bottom, which can provide a new fertiliser-like food for other plants to grow in.
    Ageing:
Also like a tree, how long a Palron has lived can be measures in the 'rings' inside the top tube on it's head, each ring in the body is about 50 earth years of life. through ageing, you can also determine how old one is by the colour of the skin, the more grey, the older it is.
    Brain:
The Palron has one that is about half the size of a human's brain, while it does not have the intelligence for large decision making, society making and such it can be concluded that the Palron is 'sentient' where it can learn slowly some some complicated actions like holding delicate objects and simple speaking.

+ Even though horror bedtime stories about Palrons are known to be fantastic, Palron seeds do not stay and grow in stomachs.
+ Palron Saliva is fantastic as a hard cleaning liquid for tough rust and stains.
+ Some groups use Palron Gas as a effective poison grenade, or funny farting prank tools
+ It takes about 5 hours for a Palron to fully digest the average human being, time varies depending on how many implants one has.
+ While Palron share many similarities with tree's and plant's, they do not regrow if they are cut up, only a bad smelling fume remains.
+ Palron tentacles are not very dexterous in nature, at best they can only wrap objects around or grab small objects with the pincer's at the tips

Well, the simple thing is that through ideas for of another project I'm with a alien species that a character meets in a bar. I took the old design and edited up for the competition.
But other than that, what bar wouldn't have a 10 limbed creature that can hold, clean and fill drinks for multiple people?

Wow! With ideas like these, I don't know why I bother. *shakes head*
Oh well, I am still gonna enter, even if I come in last place.

  3. Tiger

    Tiger Phantasmal Quasar

Nice way of involving the shields there. Gas catching on fire would be interesting in the game, if this submission does not win I still want that mechanic in there. Very creative submission, good job

Thanks, Ill be sure to make a better picture and more fluff as the days go on by. Since the rendered picture was rushed a little to have something there.

  7. Dynafols

    Dynafols Black Hole Surfer

I have no idea what to think about this... It looks like someone push a cactus into a pool of radio active goop and crossed breeded it with a squid and cucumbers.

Looks pretty alien like and rather unique I have to admit, but..... what the heck is that thing?!

    Jeryen Void-Bound Voyager

My idea on what happens when a alien plant gain's sentience. But mostly from plenty of sketching on different aliens and such, besides, the more alien and less recognisable it is, the more alien the actual universe of the game looks and thats always good in my eyes.

    FungusTrooper Phantasmal Quasar

The top half looks like a terrifying Pokémon. The bottom half.. looks like.. cables. Interesting idea, you could have it guard items/doors/etc.
