I don't know if it's only me, but this tech feels so extremely good. I can use it to skim through planets while eating with one hand, or doing something else....

I just feel that it makes traversing a plant a bit too easy. I used dash and the floaty bubble thingy before I got boost but since I found it there is no comparison.

Anyway I just wanted to hear some reactions from the community which I want to get to know better (this is my first thread ^^)

meh...it gets me through more planets in a day. i use butterfly boost which is basically the same thing. doesnt really give you any fighting benefits over lesser techs other than speed and when in battle that can sometimes be more hinderance than help.

Right now, Bubble Boost is simply "the best" exploration tech. It's not as useful when fighting, unless you have really good reflexes (I don't). Targeted Blink is awesome in combat, since you immediately warp to a place that you expect to be.

Butterfly Boost is a weaker (slower and less energy-efficient) version of Bubble Boost, especially when held down and not simply tapped.

You can chase down birds much easier, and it can give you a breather to heal if you sit and float out of reach of the mobs on the ground. At least that's what I use it for.

It's very powerful but I wouldn't say it's overpowered. You can only find it on lvl 10 planets I think, and if you aren't wearing high level armor it eats through your energy very quickly. Being able to fly is reasonable if you are super bad ass dude with top of the line gear in a sci fi game.

Its needed to get anywhere and fight properly anywhere in this game if you ask me.

The only time I would NOT use it if I had a mecha that did reasonable amounts of damage.

while i agree with you, i should mention that i've found gb tech as early as gamma.

Exactly. We'll probably see more techs divided into mobility, combat and lots of unique utilities like lightning, infravision and whatnot.

I don't think it's overpowered unless you abuse key tapping.

    its not overpowered
its olny "overpowered" when you are at the end of the game

and at that point, its the end of the game so it doent matter

Its perfect until you hit final tier, then it turns into god mode.

Hmm seems that more people like it than not, well I guess it will have to be balanced once pvp becomes a thing :)

Yeah many things are unbalanced right now, but i rather have them work on a solid engine and code right now and the ingame numbers later. :p

This. You'll never have to even touch ground if you key tap, and you can pretty much use it indefinitely.

If you think its op, dont use it, its OPTIONAL.

Personally, I love feeling overpowered when I hit end-game. If there is a point to a long grind, this is it. However, although bubble/butterfly boost can help you traverse the planet quickly avoiding fights, targeted blink is a more useful skill for fighting. Additionally, since this is a beta, the actual combat isn't terribly balanced. I think we can probably let the general OP-ness of anything slide until Chucklefish start introducing pure balancing patches (get a proper nerf-bat going).

Yes this is why I started a discussion here to see what people feel.

If you don't have anything to bring to the discussion, don't post.

I had a conversation about the progression in Starbound vs Terraria. It is important in this matter.

A difference between the two in progression, is that when you get stronger in Terraria, you gain new and better ways of movement. It gets easier to get around and you spend less time fighting movement limitations and more time fighting monsters.

In Starbound there isn't a lot of movement options. It would be many folds better if there was a "magic mirror" parallel to warp back to the ship while near the core. Or even having the ability to teleport down any where on the planet as long as you've explored there by clicking a minimap or something. Aside from the lack of teleporting options, there is the difficulty of moving horizontally. When I use the bubble boost at full tilt, I often have to wait for new chunks to load in. This isn't something that should happen. Assuming it doesn't happen, exploring the surface of a planet just doesn't feel that fun or interesting. It is more of a slow marsh through a bog. A small plane or UFO to fly in would be much better to exploration. I'm not talking about mods here.

Another complaint I have is the hand usage of drills and grappling hooks. Are the hooks fun? Sure, but I can't use it to drill the ceilings of caverns, so they are not as useful as simply putting some garbage blocks to platform on. Terraria did this better with execution.
