Oxygen releaser?

A block that we can add in asteroid/moon bases, this block can bring oxygen to a room, as long as the room has a closed metal door, and be backwall'ed , or else the oxygen will leave the room.
So, i tought this was a great ideia for those who cant craft the Survival System, the oxygen releaser would be easier to craft.

This would be nice for a lot of meteor or moon bases. Works in any enclosed area with walls in the background.

Actually, coding something like this would prove difficult, I wonder if plants should have the exact same functionality. Craftable oxygen generators would also be amazing to suite the Sci-fi theme of this game.

It would be amazing if they implemented the oxygen system not only under water but airless environments as well.

I can also see draining the oxygen out of a room useful for traps or maybe a hazard underground? Imagine smoke being implemented in the game that could choke a person when they hit gas pockets underground.

Yeah, if the game implemented a gas system, would be perfect, and gases would be only visible with a special helmet.

I actually hadn't thought of that when i posted my own idea, but perhaps my Hydroponics Bay idea could be implemented with oxygen creation as well

The implementation of the suggested resource sounds more like a dirty hack to achieve this suggestion. The worst being that everyone needs to equip a special tech, might as well equip a backpack item that allows you to breath.

A perhaps better solution that is in between the herefore mentioned resource and a full gas physics system is to allow placement of 'air fans' which emit oxygen to a certain area (e.g. anyone standing within a range of X can breath)

Actually, it's not a dirty hack, the devs aprove modding

And guys, all you're saying in the comments is what i posted on the thread '-'

You know, this would really be nice for people who can't craft the survival system. Any people who want to explore areas without air. :)

At first, I read the title and thought "Well, punching someone in the stomach is a workaround until they implement an official oxygen releaser" but then I realized that wasn't quite what the OP meant.

I think this is a great idea, and so much better than a punch to the gut.

Don't worry, I was just kidding. :p But yeah, gases in general would really introduce a lot into the game if they could get the mechanics going.

I dunno, you could just designate an area around the oxygen generator as "breathable". If you want to go the extra mile, maybe have it check to see if it's enclosed by a background wall and 4 walls on all sides within it's effective range.

That would be my suggestion: Existing blocks like the various vents and fans would generate an air field around them much like the warmth field from various fire objects, size of the air field varying by size of the item. Maybe some base core items that would generate very large air fields.

It has the downside that it would be easy to just pepper a moon or asteroid belt with free-standing fans so you could walk around without a space suit, but if you make them fairly resource intensive I could see it, and I'm not sure how much of an issue that would really be anyway.

I think terraforming is beyond the scope of this game.

And please stop talking about oxygen as though that's the only thing we breathe. Air and oxygen are different things. Even if you add mechanics to alter oxygen concentrations, that only makes changing the atmosphere of an area more complicated, because breathing pure oxygen is not survivable either.

Tech as a means of survival is part of the progression. I find exploration is more fun when you have to work at accessing certain places.

I was literally just coming to make a thread about something like this. Some kind of Oxygen Generator for Bases in Zero Atmosphere locations. I think that it would also be neat if you need to install an airlock system in order to enter and exit as well, i.e. you would need to build a room with two doors, one to outside and one to inside, and would not be able to open one door unless the other door is closed. More of a "realistic" thing than a "practical gameplay" thing, but still neat, imo.

Well, the ISS has oxygen scrubbers that recycle the air the astronauts breathe and those things alone cost billions of dollars to R\research and develop.

Or you know, have it to where each vent can support a room with oxygen that it at least 10x20 or so. Maybe even make it to where you must have the walls and that you lose oxygen if the Door is open to an Airless environment forcing one to make something like an airlock. Someone made a mod of it already, so i think the devs could work with whoever made that mod.

True, but we are talking about it being in a game where we have FTL Drives...

...So, in truth it shouldn't be all that problematic. Also, there are asteroid bases out there, so technically the game does already suggest it is probable (hence the airlocks) that something like that exists.
