It feels pretty silly to walk around on a desert planet for hours, or even days, in pitch black heavy armour and not be bothered in the slightest. It seems appropriate that items should have some sort of quality related to heat on them. But while with cold you have armours that are resistant to cold, maybe with heat it could be the opposite. That metal, heavier and darker armours/clothes are simply worse for handling the heat while normal clothes and special desert armour is at point 0, where the effect of heat is minimal. Things like being in the shade or jumping into water would work to relieve heat.
As the implementation of Freezing to death is already in the game and works great, I don't see why this would be any difficulty! Get on it Tiy!
Since we are on the topic of deaths in deserts, a hydration system might me next in line if this is implemented!
Or on the volcanic worlds/standing next to magma for too long. Its hot enough to melt stone, you shouldn't be able to comfortable take a stroll around a lake made of it... and any planet comprised of several standing lava lakes would kill a person.
Yes indeed, good idea we do need overheating in deserts and as for the hydration they could easily add a needing of water since we already have hunger and it works fine. it just needs to be out and noticeable all of the time.
I think if we start to get too critical on the game's realistic-ness then we might get some unexpected and undesired results. In my humble opinion, the walking next to lava shouldn't make your player overheat. Maybe if you stand next to the lava for too long then you have an increasing chance of catching fire?
I agree let's not try to make it realistic - any adition should have som game enhancing effect - adding this to hot planets (being opposite of cold) would make people need to have suits or whatnot to deal with the heat.
True. But it adds another dimension to the game. Also, since desserts is by far the best planets to mine, I wouldn't mind some sort of requirement to be able to set foot on the planet..
Well we already have to carry cold equipment (either grind for the leather suit/use higher tier armors that have some cold protection) or at the very least carry a campfire (throwing down 4-5 torches also seems to count). So we have to grind/deal with cold exposure, but not grind/eal with heat exposure? It seems odd considering we have both extremely cold planets (snow/arctic) and extremely hot planets (desert/volcanic). The presence of one makes the other's absence seem glaring. This is ESPECIALLY true now that we have to worry about Oxygen levels on moon biomes.
Yes, that makes sence. I am just trying to clarify things so it doesn't become unbalanced and or unnecessary.
Asking questions is how we learn! So it's all good - just love how we can help eachother and improve the game!
Oh, and you might not think I'm nit-picking when you start freezing to death while standing next to a seething lava pit underneath an ice planet. I've even started freezing underground in desert planets standing next to lava (it was "night") That's just plan silly!
Just about to suggest this same thing. However, I think it might make more sense to have something like 'sun exposure' instead of strictly heat. Deserts are also really cold at nights, but under the surface they usually have pretty common temperature. Maybe have it where you just need to hide underground/wear protective clothing during the day.
We need shadows that somehow work as a cover. So we can get in a cave in the desert and refresh ourselves
I digged yesterday one day and one night on a desert planet's surface to grab enough sand for a greenhouse and had the same thoughts. When travelling to an ice planet, I need special clothes - but working in the heat of a Sahara-like planet doesn't have any effect. Protective clothing (bedouine style? Tatooine style?) would be cool. As we have some drinks in-game, maybe it would be an idea to combine these two features.
