I just hope they concentrate on Windows PC first, get one finished and polished version done, then start on ports. Mac/Linux ports are going to need work to implement anyway due to the game's move to DirectX on windows. But any time working on those ports takes time away from finishing the game. And Mac/Linux markets are tiny compared to windows/consoles. It's more of "Because we can" that the game will release on those OSes.

There is the added bonus that starbound is built on an engine, which uses LUA for most of the actual game logic. So it just requires porting the engine and using LUA natives for each platform. The real hurdle will be control mapping, platform optimisation, licensing, dev-kit costs etc.

It really depends what kind of market they want for Starbound after launch. Work on making a great market for windows, that'll build buyers for any console ports first (The minecraft way). Or spread themselves thin in the hope of large initial overall numbers (The AAA release method).

That video was made my "Polygon", the Games journalism version of Grey Applejack.

The price difference is huge. The cost for players WITHOUT a PC/PSV to grab an Ouya and a copy of Starbound and join the community is enough of a reason for me that Chucklefish should pull the trigger on a port.

I'm a backer for the Gamestick, which is one of the main competitors to the OUYA, so if it comes out for the OUYA it'll most likely come out for the Gamestick since they are both Android based systems.

It's been a while since my last post, I keep hearing worse and worse things about the OUYA and the company that makes it. Plenty of original supporters still haven't gotten their units in even though people have been buying and getting them from Amazon for a while now. The game selection is so lackluster it's just messed up honestly. Since both wifi and bluetooth use the same antennae there is tons of connectivity problems and even heat issues. I like the idea behind the OUYA, but it's a giant rip-off/scam right now meant to take $100 from anyone who doesn't do their research.

Also, big warning about the OUYA and number one reason to avoid it: First thing it does when it boots up is require a credit card number. Then when some of these 'free' games run their trials up you have to manually cancel or end up buying a game. Not to mention several people complaining about children running up hundreds of dollars in charges without permission. I'd rather the developers work on a Unix/Linux port first, stats show they are the group most willing to pay for games and almost always contribute more than Mac gamers on stuff like the Humble Bunde.

They are working on a Linux release (not a post-release port) of Starbound.

And Linux people are willing to pay for games because up until humble and recently steam we had to wait for the developer to port it themselves or to ask Ryan Gordon (icculus) to port it since i think all the linux porting houses went bankrupt. Other than that there was WINE which was/is okay but still a pain and you likely would have to pay for Crossover or Cedega (defunct) which is like $50-60 a year to get better DirectX support under WINE. The community did make game and it had a few gems but really it only ever seemed to be arena shooters. So when Humble started offering good indies with native (minus a few which are windows only, windows/mac only, or came with a special WINE "bottle" made by Crossover) linux gamers shut up and put their money where they mouth is. In short linux gamers want to buy games, one of the main reason people who use linux also dual boot is linux was crap for games (also for stuff like photoshop and microsoft office if you used those for work or pay).

Sorry, random linux history rant, i'm calm now.

Actually, I think it'd be better if you set Interact to Select. That way you don't have to remove your thumb from the right-analog stick to place items, which would allow for fast-building, AND DON'T YOU HAVE A ROADMAP TO UPDATE!?

So what we really need is for Steam to come out with an honest to goodness low price SteamBox?

I wouldn't mind it being ported anywhere honestly. I will only play it for pc, but it would help to get some of my family or friends to play who only play consoles.

It's a matter of perspective, some people see a system and think, "Well... umm, i guess this is good for this game and that game, kinda lacking though" while other think "This system has so many games I really, really want". Also depends on they type of game you like Nintendo is not well known for having vast collection of darker games so if that is your prefered genre you will be at a loss for games you like.

I just require it for the PC if it's ported to anything else I'll be happy for I know that there will be people out there who prefer a different version then myself.

But... Starbound works perfectly on a 2012 Macbook Air...Tiy has even said they've tried it on decade old PCs and it still worked perfectly...

A Macbook Air has the same specs as your mom's Facebook/Cookbook desktop. 10 year-old consumer PCs have the same specs as a printed cookbook. Why would anyone need to buy an Ouya for Starbound? Why would anyone need to buy an Ouya? Why would anyone need to buy?

    Why would anyone need?

    This thread has broken me.

    I can't quite think of 40, but...

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time (3D remake)
    Kid Icarus: Uprising
    Mario Kart 7
    Monster Hunter Tri: Ultimate

These are four absolutely fantastic games that I have thoroughly enjoyed playing and did not regret for any reason passing up a PSVita to have.

And these are just the games I own now. Monster Hunter 4 may be coming out early next year, and there are of course a bunch of other games out there that look pretty neat (mainly the Mario games). I suppose a lot of people are also interested in the Pokemon games. Not myself, but I can see the demand for it.

Anywho, my point is that even pretending for a second that the 3DS isn't an even remotely interesting console is a laughable notion.

EDIT: Oh, and the new Smash Brothers is going to have a 3DS release. Smash Brothers. On a Handheld. Honestly? 'nuff said.

I want the ouya strictly for emulation and if it had starbound that would be nice but I have no money for a vita. I do want one though. I'm probably getting a 3DS just for pokemon.
