So me and a friend had the idea of at out posts various NPC's would beam down and beam up while going about their buisness in order to make it feel more alive. We then came up with the idea of a palceable fedora that when you played music the NPC's would come by and drop food as you played your songs. The longer you played the more money you got and the more of a crowd you attracted at these outposts tell me what you think?
I'd rather there not be an AFK way of making Pixels while you watch TV. At least if you built a pixel grinder you had to build the thing.
the money system seems too simple. how about for every instrument you start out with like, one skill level. the more you play the better you get in general. maybe even apply this to songs?
Maybe the better the musician gets (by playing) the more songs they can play with higher tier songs could having better rewards. To prevent people from abusing this to AFK money, spectators would make song requests the player could satisfy if they know the song and would be rewarded afterwards.
I do like the idea but it should be limited. You can play between two to five songs but then after that you have to wait quite a while before you can do this to make pix again.
Have you ever asked a street performer how much he makes on a given day? It's not much, maybe on the order of $20 PER DAY. So, not exactly going to be a huge profit if they implement it faithfully in-game. It would be flavor, more than anything, and wouldn't give you the ability to set music, walk away, and then come back the next day able to buy a Teir 9 ship upgrade.
My point is there shouldn't be a reward for afking. Effort = Reward No effort = no reward Please avoid exaggerating my point by implying I suggested you could buy a tier 9 ship upgrade when that wasn't the context/content of my post.
I wasn't saying you were, I was saying that it's not like it would be that big of a deal. So what if it's a "reward" for "afk". Actually, it wouldn't be, since eventually the song would end, and you'd have to select a new song.
I'm not against the idea, I'm against the level of effort involved. Click a song and sit there doing nothing till it's done, then pick another song ect. It's not an involved process at all, you don't even need to move from the spot. Nothing about this is deserving of reward no matter how small. My original response is to the idea as presented.
My issue wit hthe whole afk money argument isn't about the money. I want this int othe game to make the niverse feel more alive. Have the npcs react to what you do and have "Intergalactic jobs" that can be enjoyable. Starbound has so much potential and I don't want to see it untapped.
NPCs giving you gold to afk doesn't make the game more alive. NPCs commenting that you took out local pirates/bandits would make it more alive. NPCs reacting to you stealing from their house would make them more alive. NPCs knowing you killed someone in town and reacting to it would make them more alive. All I see is a lazy way to make pixels, it certainly doesn't flesh anything out or help tap the untapped.
Okay so is anyone opposed to making NPC's react to players playing music without giving any money (even 1 pixel per song)? I'm pretty sure some at least two of these are already planned.
2 of the 3 lines in the original post are about cash and more cash for doing it longer. I simply wanted to make my point clear as a line in the sand. I like everything about this idea but the pixels. This I 100% support. Villagers should notice your actions and react to them, be it booing, cheering or making comments that you need practice. I think you'd be hard pressed to find someone who'd see it as a bad idea without the pixel farming elements. Even if I'd never do it I'd support it. The last 2 are in the works. I have hopes for many more like them.
If there was say....an accident and my gun discharged, you know, by accident. Would said individual have more pixels then the average NPC?
