Hello, I'm bad with intros so I'm just going to get straight to the point. In the Nightly there are new types of quests that require you to either rescue or bring a person's friend to them. In the nightly I made a small test colony of three colonist and in less than an hour of doing quests my colony swelled to eight members without any additional colony deeds. (Predominantly Hylotl unfortunately) Although I'm confident CF is working hard to make sure everything will be balanced and perfect before 1.0 there are still many downsides to these freeloading "friends": They can't become crew members(As of now) They don't pay rent They have no deed therefore if they die they won't respawn They create clusters which could be a potential source of lag They do not teleport away like traveling merchants So this is where my suggestion comes in. I was thinking about adding in a new type of colony deed called an "Outpost Deed". These deeds would have all the same parameters as normal colony deeds except it would require at least one bed. For every bed that is in the outpost a friend or refugee(discussed later) could move in up to a max of 9. They can be added through a S.A.I.L. interface. When the are added to the outpost they can then pay a collective reduced rent, become crew members, and respawn. Also thinking about some of the knew dungeons like the devout Avian villages, Avian towers, and Glitch castles, on your journeys you can bring back willing refugees to your outpost if you choose. Finally there is a piece of concept art down below if your interested, but I must warn you I'm a bad builder and a horrible artist. Let me know what you think!
It's a good idea in general, and i would support. but SAIL's S stands for Ship-based. so don't put this in SAIL, but maybe some distinct AI or shop. that way, it doesn't clutter up the existing SAIL (which looks to be getting a lot more use come 1.0) more...but still makes some sense.
I am in support of this, but it begs the question: Would the outpost follow the same parameters as the tenant system or would it be planet wide/it's own system of multiple doors and connected rooms?
Now that you mention it that does make more sense. Maybe instead they could reuse the old employers station or research station sprite to make a new interface for creating outposts and adding new members to different outposts. The outpost can be unlocked with a ship upgrade. The outpost deeds would follow nearly the same parameters as the colony deed except: - The number of beds determine the number of villagers(A max of 9) - Furniture does not determine what refugee or friend can live there Basically think of it like an shelter. Thank you guys for your feedback!
