So my friend and I just launched our server only to find out that our home planet had disappeared and was replaced by a copy of itself from when we originally started up. The planets shape and size were the exact same along with the color of dirt the trees and the various NPC's. We haven't played for a few weeks and I don't recall any major crashes or failures during game play that would have caused it. When my friend (the one who's computer the server runs off of) started his single player it gave him an error which later happened again when we started the server. I have an assumption that somehow the server world file got replaced by like a back up or something but when we looked at the universe folder there was no copy or anything. We have no idea what is going on, I'm hoping someone on here can help us possibly recover our save but more importantly get the errors to stop so we can get back to playing.

The world renegerated itself... There's nothing you can do to recover the world, it's gone unless you had backups.

The error means the universe folder is being locked by another process and starbound_server can't lock it. Restarting your computer gets rid of locked stuff.

My servers spawn planet and some other have been regenerated a couple times which is why I do hourly backups as well as manual ones.

What causes these regenerations? Is there any way to prevent it? We are gonna just start a whole new world on my computer so I will start doing backups, I'm just curious if there is anyway to stop this from happening again.

    Thank you for your help.

They can generate whenever they feel like it, from a restart, a crash... All you can do it make sure you take backups.

There are a certain software I'm using that is absolutely fantastic for automatic backups! Google Bvckup 2 :)!

There is a reason for it happening - generally the world file gets corrupted, this happens more often then not when players use custom mods. I managed to prevent it by disabling everyone from building, but it can still corrupt if it crashes mid save etc...

We didn't have any mods running o_O We did build stuff but it wasn't modded it was all in game stuff.

You can always see if there's a .fail file corresponding to your world, if the stars are in alignment and the penguin smiles you might be able to load it again by simply renaming it. Best option is still the backup route, often and regularly (you can just target specific worlds that you care about to save space).
