Get the leather set that will protect you frorm mostly everything, also get a steel weapon you are all set nothing can touch you after that.
I've got an old 8600GTS with 256MB of GDDR3 (pretty poor for today's standards) and I experience no lag unless I end up moving a lot of sand or gravel (and I mean a LOT). It would seem as though the processor's power means a lot more than the graphics card's power as far as performance is concerned in this game.
The enemies are definitely way too strong now. I have the best tier one armor and weapons I can craft and I am still struggling. I love that gold is easier to find now.
Excellent, this will be my #1 suggestion for those who seem to be extremely upset about characters wipes! I'm gonna be testing out some MP tonight this game is amazingly addictive and I see massive potential, a step forward for the 2D Sandbox builder genre.
Nope, they nerfed the leather... It is now about as effective as trying to block a cannon with a tissue... and also, how the f*** are we supposed to get steel when we can't even beat the UFO... They have effectivly made it impossible to even get past the early game... this is bulls***... The leveling system was hard to understand, and I won't even begin to pretend that I even half understood it.. but at least that s*** worked.... just go back to the leveled gear system and make a post on the wiki giving a detailed explanation of how the damage calculation works...
mmm I dont think realy going back to the old one would be all that great yes it did work but realy this is a nasty balancing issue monsters are now to strong where our equipment is weak... armor feels broken and does not lower damage at all and our weaponry is weak i had to semi box myself in with a opening to fire arrows out at the UFO doing 3 - 5 dmg to it and having to scramble around trying to bandage myself when the legion of birds that aggro at the drop of a hat come after you and start nailing you for 45+ dmg
But is DID work, you even admitted it. I don't think there was a balancing issue when everything was done by level, and if there was, then I just never got that far... I had only just got into steel armor when the update wipe happened (which I am totally cool with, they did warn us after all)... but steel was rape on the starter planet.. I one-shotted everything, and I think that was the point.
i run fine on my GeForce 560m (i get some lag spikes however with some more complex lighting and stuff falling but other than that im good)
I made a new character to try early-game after the latest patch. I really enjoy the challenge, but I don't like that you can't craft any weapon that actually deals damage. Beating the UFO will be pretty hard this time, feels like I'll have to do it the lame way: box myself in and shoot arrows for 15 minutes.
I tried that, but my shit weaponry, combined with powerful enemies, and VERY uneven terrain, got me killed by that penguin prick.
If only dear friend. If only. I can barely survive long enough to make a basic bow, let alone an iron one. With the freakin' band of bandits also deciding to occupy my planet, and every non-hostile npc getting their pancakes flipped by the local fauna, I am beginning to believe gathering as much coal as possible and leaving might be the better option.
Dig through the dirt just beneath the surface. That's how me and a friend survived a level 10 planet long enough to find lots of chests containing fun stuff, back when there were still 10 levels per sector
Just got home off of work, checked out the new update (the hotpatch) and here are my thoughts. Bravo! Thank you so much for making the game challenging again, it has brought back the old Starbound that I loved and made it feel rewarding. I love the leveling system, the challenge, the thrill of the fight, the sense of immersion I get when I hear that epic battle music play; and the sense of accomplishment when I bring my sledgehammer down upon my enemy for the killing bow. All I can say is that so far, I freaking love this new patch. If any of you are old enough you might remember a game for NES called Ghouls and Goblins, and you will know how difficult it was; well I would describe Starbound as Terraria + Ghouls & Goblins + Silver Surfer (NES) = Starbound; and that is not an insult it is a compliment. I know you guys have done so much to get this game right, and please know not only me but dozens of thousands of other people really appreciate you hard work and your dedication to your craft. Simply put, Thanks
