I just hope the white dwarf doesn't become a black hole and become a common thing that we loose our characters but I suppose it will for a while... After Xnez quite appropriately reminded us it's a Betta lol... The more I start again the more I go through the process off telling myself "this one matters most" and inevitably become super attached.

I found unrefined wood to be better than coal, only because its so much easier to gather and you'll find yourself getting almost 1000 in a single planet, in less than 15 minutes, specially if you start in a forest. That alone is enough fill your ship's deposit and still have some extra for torches. I have to be really lucky with coal for it work for me, the first planets I've landed into give me around 100 if I look hard enough, which ins't really enough if I plan on starting visiting other systems as soon as possible.... also I'm OCD about how much fuel I have left, I hate seeing it drop bellow 80%.

 

Wood was the original fuel before coal.

Secondly, I like to save my coal for Steel, Durasteel, and all the 50 recipes that require coal, vs the 5 that requires wood.

thats what I mean... unrefined wood's ONLY real ues was for p owering ur ship...c us afte ryou make tools... you have NO use for it as your tools are made... and most homes are made of wood or whatever people raid off the worlds.

I've read a few tips on how to make it run smoother...

I've a fairly powerful pc not gonna bore you with spec but played through the likes of crisis and Skyrim and play Arma3 online too which are fine but even Starbounds FPS get choppy and uncomfortable.

Apart from safe mode (open gl) I gather there's not much more I can do to improve performance? I'm sure it's allot to do with their game engine atm...

But still it depends on some planets there is not enough coal, i love mining wich takes away to much of the coal i find in this mines.
