OST being uploaded to youtube.

I wasn't sure where else this should go but I'm seeing an increasing number of the soundtrack songs being uploaded to youtube... while I really love the music and want to share it with my friends, I feel this is some sort of violation since people can then use one of the many Video to MP3 sites to download the songs to their computers without having paid. I just wanted to bring it to the attention of the right people, and let them decide. Youtube only gives flagging options if it's *my* personal content, which of course it isn't.

I apologize for sounding like a tattletale, that isn't my intention :\ but I realize that's basically how it looks.

 

i fear the same thing too, i want to make some video's trying to get more people interested but it feels like im breaching some rule..

 

I honestly don't see the problem, most games have their OSTs released on YT and only very few companies actually take action against that. Besides, I believe most of the tools used to download videos either don't allow you to download from YouTube or aren't exactly safe.

 

You believe wrong. There's quite an arsenal available for downloading videos from video services, capturing streams and converting formats.

 

Actually... I wont name the website but there are plenty of videos that you can download safely, easily too if you know your way around google. The problem is, people 'will' try this.

Sadly, this is just the reality of internet. If someone gets something that other people don't have access to or they have to pay for, most likely that thing will end up somewhere where it is available for free. And if it gets taken down, the other people that already got it will upload it as well. There's really nothing you can do about it.

 

This was inevitable. I would not be surprised one bit if it's been already uploaded to The Pirate Bay. This does have a positive effect though... This will most likely bring a lot more attention to the game which is always a good thing.

 

Relax guys, piracy is unavoidable. If anything now people can actually listen to the OST and decide to buy them. It's free advertisement.

 

Hunting them down would mostly just make people upset, and it'd be a bit of a lost cause as it's the internet.

I don't see it as a problem. I would rather buy soundtracks I like than go through the tedium of downloading from YT.

Soundtracks on YT is also a great way of attracting people to the game. Several times I have found games I like through their soundtracks.

A decent portion of the OST can already be streamed from this site, though. It's excellent as a free sample, and should cancel out reasons to replicate it to youtube.

 

Just make your videos and give credit to where it belongs. No rules breached since you do own the product. I mean, you buy a car, you have the right to show it off, right?

 

Right now the Soundtrack isn't for sale individually. Everyone who pre orders the game now gets it as a bonus. PLUS you can already listen to the game soundtrack in excellent quality on the Starbound Homepage. I don't think its such a big deal. I don't think the abilty to listen to the soundtrack on youtube will prevent anyone who wants to buy starbound from doing so

 

I think that Videos from YouTube can attract more people to the game

 

Yeah, as long as you're not downloading it I don't seethe problem, some people really enjoy the ost and can't afford paying for the game at the moment.

 

Putting the credits to the author in the description of the video compensates all

 

All I can hear in my head is "You wouldn't download a car."

So the general consensus is that it's okay? Alrighty then. I would just rather be safe than sorry so I thought I'd bring it up.
