Ore rates - adjusted rates?

I was going over the 'ore rates' since last night by digging like mad with a bunch of friends. We realized it's well... totally out of whack to say the least. yet I know many people are going to have very divided opinions of 'it's too common/rare!'. What do you guys think, compared to current rates (as of this post), they should be adjusted to?

Myself personally, this is how I feel it should be balanced,

NOTE: This is referring to CURRENT ore balance, and what they SHOULD be balanced to, when Tiy 'fixes them' as per his mention in twitter yesterday.

    Planet sectors: Alpha (level 1-10)

    ~*~

Copper at Surface: Justtt about perfect. I would say it's fine as it is.
Copper Middle Depth: It's a little low here. I'd argue a +5-10% boost would put right.
Copper Deep Down: Entirely fine - you don't dig deep for copper!

    ~*~

Iron at Surface: pretty much perfect. Enough with some effort to find some for an anvil, but not fully survive off of.

Iron Middle Depth: Now, we got a problem. It's much rarer then prior. a boost of +10-20% for middle-spawn depth would be wise.
Iron Deep Down: Totally broken. I find 3-4x more silver and gold, then I do iron! It needs a solid +30-50% boost compared to what it is now.

    ~*~

Silver at Surface: Very rare, maybe one or two pockets per 1500 block distance at best, feels right.

Silver Middle Depth: Little too frequent, but not game breaking, perhaps a small 10% nerf to rates for middle depths.

Silver Deep Down: WAY TOO COMMON! Holy lord! I was finding more silver then iron OR copper! a sharp -40-65% nerf is vital. It's just stupidly over abundant at current.

    ~*~

Gold at Surface: Not seen gold at the surface yet on any planet in the 1-10 range.

Gold Middle Depth: justttttttttttt about right. Maybe a smidge too common.

Gold Deep Down: gold! GOLD!!! Everywhere is gold! Seriously. I found veins of gold 30+ large for crying out loud! a massive 50-85% nerf for gold rates (especially as its a tier 2 material) needs to take place.

    ~*~

    TL;DR -

    Copper is mostly fine.

Iron needs a 30-50% buff deep down in rate.

Silver needs a SHARP nerf deep down, of at least 50%.

Gold needs a very sharp nerf deep down, of 60-85% - being insanely common when it is a tier 2 material.

What do you guy thinks? Don't say 'no, you're wrong, I like it' - clarify why it should stay as it is, or how much it should change. Discussion is good, mmmk? :p

Ore rates are not balanced in the current version of the game - there was a reference to this in Tiy's post about it, essentially 'everything's appearing way more than it should, have fun'

If you want to fix the ore distribution values you can fix them yourself pretty easily. Then share the file with your server and your friends before you start up a game.

The oredistribution file is located in steam/steamapps/common/Starbound/assets/biomes/oredistributions.config

Open that in Notepad++ (free download quick and easy) adjust the values to your desire, save it and "Presto-Change-O!" ore distribution is now exactly as you want it. Everything is pretty simple and easy to understand in that file.

    *Edit*

oh and if you don't want to worry about updates changing your changes, do this stuff.

My bad for not making it blatantly clear, I meant this in a sense for what the 'optimal rates' should be, when Tiy re-adjusts them. I'm quite aware of his intention to rebalance them, and that's why I brought this up - forgetting to mention that clearly.

Based upon the patch note, they're probably going to be considerably lower than they currently are. (which is really dumb but hey.)

Correct me if I'm wrong since I haven't actually made it too far into the beta yet, but from what I have seen the ore system in this game is kind of odd. Instead of ore making just better versions of things as you gain more precious metals; copper/silver/gold/platinum/diamond seem to be only used to upgrade armor and picks. While iron/steel/titanium are use as the backbone of the crafting system. Perhaps the extreme amount of silver and gold you found isn't actually that game breaking. First off, getting to the depth your describing is painstaking long by yourself and I've seen little else down in the lava areas of planets that warrants digging that deep. Secondly besides upgrading armor and picks finding extra gold and silver may not be that valuable except for pixel generation in later levels of the game.

No, all of the "precious" materials are used for crafting, too. I think that only weapons are not made out of them. In fact, there was a very nasty break in progression last patch, because you needed Platinum to make the base for the third-tier racial armor, but Platinum did not spawn at all until tier 4 planets.
