This has been my favorite Patch for the game, The player, and the monsters have all been balanced the AI is a bit smarter then it was before, you progress at a nice pace. It actually gets harder as you advance in tiers. Overall the game is going in the better direction...

    But......

    *drum roll*

1: I feel although progression goes at a nice pace, I've been able to progress by only going to 2-3 planets per sector, when each sector is massive and almost infinite.

My suggestion is to make it so the Armour's you craft isn't by default the best, and add in some Armour's that you are required to find the recipes which require materials which can only found in certain dungeons (This could however slow progression because it could take 5 minutes to find the dungeon or it could take forever.) if you added many different Armour's with many different buffs and different required materials, you'd eventually settle for any of them, or if your like me, you'd just take the slow route and find the specific Armour you wan't. (I'm the kinda guy who likes his games to last a really long time.)

2: The ore distribution just needs to be a little tiny bit less forgiving, I was able to make a diamond pick-axe on the first planet, and I was able to skip a lot of work for the third tier because I was able to find platinum and gold really easy in the first and second tiers.

My suggestion is to eliminate Gold, Silver and Diamond in Sector 1. And do it similar for every other tier removing materials we won't need until later tiers otherwise you can advance a tier, craft all you need, and go right to the next tier within a few minutes.

3: The fall damage nerf was a bit to much, I was glad they nerfed it, but I fell for a good long 5 seconds flat, and Still didn't die, 5 Seconds is a long time to be falling, you would survive it but not take 29 damage.

My suggestion is to keep the current height it takes to get hurt by falling, But add a status effect, something along the lines of "Leg Injury" where you move slower for about 10 seconds.

4: Before anyone screams "Beta beta beta beta beta", I'd like to say, exactly, so instead of reiterating your stupid *censored* thought, think about actually discussing the beta like an intelligent human being for once, seriously it isn't your job to defend a beta, it's your job to help improve it instead of being a hypocrite *censored*. Seriously I hope nothing but suffering upon your kind.

My suggestion is that if you can't abide the above statement, Shut the *Censored* up.

Is that all you read? well, I guess it's Your job to spot those things. I may have made it easier to see.

No, it's not all I read. I was merely highlighting that it might not go down well.

Okay, so we would be unable to progress past Sector one in the process. Could be MUCH simpler just to add a "Depth" system to the game, or tighten it, like Minecrafts, and make it so planets can't have ores above a certain depth, or ores above a certain depth have a sort of penalty per vein, up to 90% less ore for surface ores on several things.

I like all of these points.

1: Its rather simple now, and pretty smooth

2: Yeah the distribution is still wonky but it works.

3: I think its better at the moment, needs fixed for sure.

Hehe didn't think about that, On that note, maybe should find the materials we need to progress... In dungeons.

Putting the smooth tone aside, the tiered game progression is a valid discussion point. There are very few reasons to go back to earlier sectors once players progress past them.

A game like Starbound doesn't have an "endgame". Getting to the top tier simply means "finally opening all the doors", and it should just be the beginning of your adventure. From there, content should't scale in straight-up-upgrade terms, but rather scale horizontally in terms of variety and style, and rarity (epic/legendary items obviously better than normal ones, and since they are rare to find, players would really only bother looking for them at tier X, because at earlier tiers rare items would rapidly become obsolete when you upgrade your tier).

Really the "infinite" universe aspect is only relevant at Tier X.

Therefore, from the game design perspective, I wish the context distribution would not be like this:

    tier1content->tier2content->tier3content->tier3content->tier4content->tier5content->tier6content->tier7content->tier8content->tier9content->tierXcontent

    But instead like THIS:

    tier1content->tier2content->tier3content->tier3content->tier4content->tier5content->tier6content->tier7content->tier8content->tier9content->tierX-OMG-SO-MUCH-STUFF-content

"Content" being interpreted in a wide sense: items, quests, rare locations/finds, etc. I think that (easily) half (or more) of the game's total content should be distributed on Tier X, and the rest across all the earlier tiers combined.

I believe that once dynamically generated quests are introduced later down the road there will be a lot more 'horizontal' content along the tier progression and in 'endgame.'

    But that's my hope.

I was thinking, What if instead of sector 1-10, what if it was just one sector, and instead of upgrading your ship you just upgraded your technology, there would be an issue where you could just go to a level 10 planet and find a chest on the surface, So in order to prevent that, if you go to a level 10 planet when your technology is tier 1, you just Melt as soon as you hit the surface. Or maybe it's balanced so you can't use weapons that are above your tier, or at least one tier higher

And have them drop from dungeon bosses.
Because I want Bosses to spawn naturally at the "End" of a dungeon. And then have a teleporter that'll take you back to the Surface.

I disagree. I've found all of one dungeon after the character wipe, after exploring over eighty planets. Best part? The dungeon was an outhouse over a sewer, no loot at all. Silver, Gold, Platinum, Copper, Diamonds, all are naturally found in the world, underground. occasionally, Gold, Diamonds, and other "precious" ores and metals will turn up on the surface as well, the way planets shift and move due to their mantles moving their plates around.

Scientifically, only finding ores in dungeons would not be supported. On top of it, quite a few people, myself included, are having issues acquiring better weapons from the drop system. Only people that spend a long time grinding would be able to advance to tier two, and, since this isn't a copy or a clone of bad games, like WoW or DOTA2, grinding needs not be a part of it.

Note: Do not insult Jonesy, he's rather patient, but I would go back and re-read the forum Rules from time to time. This BETA is pretty much an ALPHA. Balance issues *WILL* happen, we need to find them, and report them. Perhaps give ideas to it. eliminating an ore altogether would cause issues, and be a temp fix. The "Easy" thing will not be the "Right" thing, in this instance.

Hm. You raise a good point. Dungeons are capable of being hard to find (Although, since the wipe, i have found at least 1 dungeon on each planet I've explored, which is why I forgot about the rarity) and are capable of dropping no loot.
And i even have "Dungeon Loot" on my "Useless" list. bleh.

No one insulted him, I may have offended him by using course language which I thought was necessary because contrary to pretentious belief, it's language that people understand and perceive and understand really well. I apologize for anyone being offended by naughty words on a screen, But when you open a web browser it's kinda like consenting to it.

It wasn't a matter of being offended, as such. More my concern that others would. Flaming has started over less, and the language didn't help at all. But what's done is done.

Really, it's not. I understand coarse language, it is used often around me, and frankly, I'm just sick of it, personally. It is far simpler to get through to someone by giving them longer words to read. It slows them down, requires them to think. Far more often than not, I find that people are less likely to respond to a well-written post, rather than one filled with coarse, harsh language that, in this day and age, is commonplace.

I misread earlier, I apologize for that, but I do not think snapping at a Forum Moderator is a very wise decision.

No one snapped, So far no ones really been offended, it's only been people worried that other people will be offended, but no ones been offended yet, there has been legitimate discussion about the beta, and then there has been this silly discussion. No one snaps and makes an angry forum post they go and kill their spouse or something. Anyway where getting off topic xD.

I feel like eliminating planet levels has decreased my urge to explore. It was really fun to try to pop onto a planet that was a little above your level to try and scrounge good equipment. I find myself whipping quickly through the tiers now. Like you say in your first point, it feels like you just need a few planets.

About your second point. I feel like there's a little too much ore now, and the better ores (per sector) need to be deeper. It's pretty easy to just skim the top of a planet and harvest everything you ever need. I still explore beneath the surface, but I don't feel like anything worthwhile is really down there. No "OMG DIAMONDS!" moments anymore. I'm pretty sure this is coming though, since tiy said he felt he went too far in this direction in the release notes.

Quite right good sir, apologies. I noticed another thread earlier in the day that mentioned ores being too common, and another idea sparked on there, I don't remember the thread, I scanned it, but I did notice someone had a thought for a Depth system like I mentioned, but had a great method of implementing it:

    Depths:
    Core/Lower Cavern/ Mid Cavern/ Upper Cavern/ Lower Crust/ Crust/ Surface.

Core: 0% chance for all ores.

Lower Cavern: Chance for ore veins very high, ore density +15%

Mid Cavern, Chance for ore veins high, ore density +5% Rare ores, +10% Common/uncommon ores

Upper Cavern: Chance for ore veins normal, Ore Density normal Rare Ores, +5% Umcommon, +10% common

Lower Crust: Chance for ore veins normal, Ore Density no Rare Ores, Normal uncommon, +5% common

Crust/Surface: Chance for ore veins low, Ore Density no Rare/Uncommon ores Normal/low Common

Yeah, Maybe the whole removing ores entirely thing was going a bit to far, the thing your suggesting would make much more sense.
