Yes - as long as the game is in development [ especially nightly ] - there are always chances of vanilla files being moved around or new code required for various items.
    This can easily cause incompatibility.

I hope a lot of what people have posted here gets implemented... one way or the other. Hopefully the next build will give me something to bite into. I dont, at all, regret purchasing four copies of this game; but I am hoping the long dev cycle will pay off (like the recent giant Dwarf Fortress release, soon with gelding! Military training is still broken, but I can pick fruit from a step ladder!..)

If you're interested, the latest EC episode also has some interesting points on implementing difficulty.

Wow @Jonesy that video was an interesting view that is for sure. Although I do somewhat agree with some points, but then again I had trouble play that game, in fact I never finished that particular game. I guess I am one of the few that didn't feel the same way went playing that game, or at least the intended feeling.

I love the combat in that game, not so much the execution though. I probably just have an awkward playstyle for that approach to work. Which in fact it didn't really entice much of myself. I was like that person who threw down the controller out of frustration in that video; minus the controller throwing and more frustration. So it is safe to say that that approach mentioned in the video probably will not work for everyone, but at least looks good enough to work.

Note: In that game I never made it past that first "big" boss. strategies are one thing, but I had enough trying/attempting that boss that I gave up and put the game down, and went to another game. lol

Oh well not all games can entice everyone, but at least get the attention of quite a few.:)

I found that the lack of creepiness/scariness not as interesting and making the game bit lacking in urgency.

Starbound so far feels like a fluffy kindergarten where everybody plays nice ,where as Terraria is more creepy horror survival where AGRAAAAHAAAA ME EYE! ME LEGSSSS RUN! CRAWL AWAY!.

Though i only recently restarted playing nightly builds so this could of changed.

Considering how we share the same universe and can go to the same planets with all characters. I'm not sure how easily this can be brought in. Though I would like some more nasties that know more than bash. :)

There is a feeling of "cozy catastrophe" that I think will be balanced with dire problems, both with the mining mission, and more lore being brought in.

There are some tracks in the music, that sounds less "easy happy listening" and more "dissonant music to be played during chaos."

    Ah the joy of lists...

1: Love the new ore generation in nightly! i want to see it in full update, far more important then a beachball imo.
2: maybe a tweek to said ore generation so not all x tier ores spawn on a given planet, thus forcing you to explore other
    planets of x threat level.
3: Matter manipulator vs, tools. Why am i using a pickax, ax, and drills? This is sci-fi and i feel like the only other tools i should
have are wrenches, wiring tool(s), and specialty items. I could see using a mining laser over said manipulator for speed
and size of mining area. stone/bronze age tools should have no ability to be better then your starting tech, just seems
    odd.
4:BASIC SERVER FUNCTIONS!!!!!!!!!. Why those aren't in a game designed for a more mutiplayer experience I just don't know.
5: More Bosses! Sure, i freak out when i see the big boss beast of a given planet, but build-a-boss is kinda lame. What if
instead of build-a-boss your Ship AI gives you a quest to look for this person/place/thing around a given planet or nearby
system. Or perhaps beacons randomly summon from a list of bosses, encouraging the player to try multiple times for a
    specific one.
6:Bookmarking planets. This is huge for me, with the amount of planets that can be generated. It should be much easier to
return to various planets. We already have a home button, maybe just have a stored list of planets that could be tagged to
select from for ease of transit.
7:Armor! Again, this is the future. I understand I'm a refugee and don't have anything but a broken-down ship and a single tool to
my name. But it's Sci-Fi and I'm wearing iron armor. Maybe integration of some of the mod concepts of adding
    modules/modifiers to various gear.
8:More gear slots. Vanity items are nice and help for a toon's identity, but why cant i wear a belt, necklace or ring? Maybe an
accessory slot or 3 along the lines of scanners, radar, etc. Minecraft irkes me like this too, Terraria has one up on both this
    and MC.
9:A clear development road map. A list of features and goals to move from beta to release. Look at squad and Kerbal space program. Anyone who is curious can get an answer on where things are. I really like this game and love the way it looks, but the poor thing has loose ends that should have been tied up so it feels more complete. With the frequency and size of the updates in their current state, it worries me that Starbound will be in development for the next three years and finally reach launch but with almost 0 community support because it took too long to keep them impressed enough to play.

Those things said, I really hope to see things continue to improve but with a slightly faster pace.

I disagree with their statements, and do not think Dark Souls's approach to difficulty would work as well in even its own setting. What is considered "genius" in one game would be a major detraction and glitch that takes people out of the game in another. It's a fine line between discovery and usage of game mechanics, and just plain forgoing the game experience to say you've "won".

My reasoning why Stable is not getting updates is because they do not want to update the tiers/sectors 1-10 system because they scrapped it for the new sector system. I believe what is currently missing is:

    1. More activities that have outcomes besides fighting and mining. It's worded weirdly, but like how in nightly later, we can sell items to merchants to earn pixels and we can use the programmable computers to make our own mini games.

    2. Options to hide armor slots with invisible items. This has been done with mods many times, but I'd like to see it in the core game because not everyone wants a big tank on their back and a helmet on when they just want to wear regular clothes.

    3. More unique items to use, they can be anything besides just weapons. Novelty items like the upcoming paper airplanes always make nice additions for having fun with friends on multiplayer.

    4. For multiplayer, items that allow gamemodes like capture the flag (Terraria has capture the Gem) and other things such as team spawners to make arenas.

    5. As much as I love to see custom races get made, I think if there was 1 more color you can put on races, you could make alot more details in them.

    6. Bosses can drop special items that are specific to them which makes killing a boss several times more rewarding.

-Actual vehicles and not just 'ability' vehicles.
-Non-linear progression. (or at least removal of mining being the only way to progress)
-More variety in combat as a whole.
-Flavor (intentionally ambiguous, but an example would be an empty planet where your character experiences hallucinations that aren't actually there).
-Improvements to enemy AI, mostly focused on boss AI (and improvements to the bosses skill sets as well).
    -Random events (FTL or otherwise).

This is all based on my last experience playing the game and I haven't played since last month and got stuck on the first outpost so i don't know if there's more to it right now. I could write up a ton of suggestions, but I'm pretty sure that I don't have the sway or popularity for any of it to matter. This small post is all the energy I can manage to put forth.

A good Sci-Fi feeling and depth.
Don't forget everything following is pretty much subjective and describing more of what i'd wish the game become, than what the actual vision might have been. So bare with me here, and keep in mind i'm aware of that and would actually be happy enough to see some of those things change.
    - Melee is stylistically as overall to much of a skyrim; Dune, Star Wars, Shadowrun and others show how to at least stylistically do a much better Melee system for a sci-fi game, than what we currently have. So i'd like to see a shift into that direction at least stylistically.
    - Melee is currently much more preferable than guns; Not only do they do, as far as i've seen, more damage, but they're also not using a limited ammo-pool. Added problem is that the ammo-pool is the energy for technics. I think one of the shortages of ranged should be enough to offset the advantage of range (especially as protected dungeons, can be designed in a way where range isn't that much of a advantage at all). Though i'd still prefer some sort of actuall ammo item, which one needs to spend actual resources on to make (or buy from vendors).
    - Food ~ Potions; is again stylistically pretty bad. As it would be much better to make it about extracting and synthezising different agents from plant matters and build potions out of that. And added more depth system like skyrims potion making and certain plants offering specific agents would not only improve the exploration (Wow i found that great plant) but as said improve the overall feeling.
    - Nearly non new functionallity was added so far when you progress through the game; I'm sure this will somehow be tackled, but so far it's more about gaining higher attribute mods, than new options how to approach things. You can dig faster, kill faster - but there's nothing new mechanical. Meaning you've more or less seen every mechanic as soon as you've killed the first boss.
    - Where are the other technologically advanced settlements and such? Yes i know of the USMC and the Apex Labs on the planets; but overall there's pretty much nothing in terms of interesting technology. It would be nice seeing more advanced settlements with production facilities or such. One could still block out access for player to such, through some progress hurdles.
    - Lack of machines. Take a look at some of the tech-modpacks for Minecraft. The processing of basic resources towards something more valuable through som actual process feels for me much better than just finding colored ore #5 and using that in colored workbench #5 to get armor #5. Adding a procedure with some variable input of the player, which will lead to different qualities of items, will feel clunky to some players, but i think it's a great way to give some actuall feeling of researching something technically.
    - Lack of modular items. Again that's somewhat of a double edged sword and is definately very subjective. But i'd sooner liked to see different armor design, which posses different slots which can be filled by some modular parts you produce, than producing completly finished producst. E.g. building a power armor could give you something like 3 big internal slots, 6 small internal slots, 2 arm slots, 2 head slots, 2 leg slots; Which could be filled by different modulars, like a reactor that in itself was more defined about what materials and design you used instead of being a completly given design. Throw in some need to scan space relicts or analyze new ores or anything and you'd have a reason for players to scan objects (getting your descriptions) and might somewhat reduce the luck to find certain techs...
    - The lack of different type of settlements and somewhat of a trading system; Take a look at something like X 3:Terran Conflict or older Space-Trade simulators, where different planets/stations needed different materials, which meant you could trade to get money and upgrade your equipment with that money. I'd really liked to see something like a mining colony in the asteroids fields, which would by food and sell ores; while finding backwater farming towns on some other planets which would like to buy tools/ores and seel food or such. This would imho not only help the overall sci-fi feel, but also cut a lot of the grinding if you want to cut it.

But again, that's more less just what i'd liked to see. And isn't exactly what the game was advertised to be. So yeah..

Otherwise (also repeating somewhat what was already said).
    - More NPC Interaction; Quests; Gathering a crew
    - Better tools to change a planet (the once mentioned terrarforming).
    - Ways to deflect meteors from our bases
    - More Quests
    - Real vehicles
    - More challenging fights
    - The introduction movies for the races
    - 'Hive'-worlds; the world with it's monster a currently nice and dandy, but i'm missing something like an alien/bug infested planet so far. Like the once shown tentacle planet background.

    Money.

I want Starbound to hand me money - giant wads of real-life currency - every seven minutes, in $100 minimums. Whether this money comes through my screen, teleports onto the table, or is deposited directly into my bank account I am not really picky. I just want the cash.

Optimization. While I'm perfectly aware it's a beta and only in stage 1, the game in some places is completely unplayable for me, for instance the floran mission. My character frequently has control delays of several seconds, or extends half-second movement commands to run-to-the-end-of-the-world sprints. This results in me falling in acid or lava, or off of cliffs when I obviously didn't want to. Dunno what's causing it, but I'd like just a little bit of bugfixing.

As someone who hasn't been around in quite a long time, and has followed the project from day one.... I was thinking about this actually.

Variety. I know some biomes and ores aren't around till late game, but I feel like the game progresses way to linearly at the moment. Make every tier have a lot of new things instead of just one or two cool things and then move to next tier. I think they're working on this anyhow, so that's cool. More stuff in general, which I'm sure is being waited on till all of the code is reworked.

Variety in mob tactics. We have a lot of different baddies, but they all approach the player the same way. I understand its not easy to do, but I think it'll not only look better when fighting multiple baddies, but it'll keep things interesting once you've figured out walking back and swinging your 2-hander helps resolve practically any npc melee opponent.

More recipes for certain items. again I'm lacking a use for stuff like hard monster plates and the ore of precious metals (silver, gold, etc.). What are their current uses now?

I also want @DukeOfRiven 's money idea. Have my pixel compressor make me some sweet cash. :)
