    Hi,

whats Your opinion guys on Flesh and Bone Layers?
I know Starbound is not "planetary generator simulator" but I have a feeling these layers are too much behind the "believable planet" border. They just do not looks too much real :)

Or is there any purpose of these layers? Some boss or whatsoever?
Are there any other weird layers I may run into? (I am totally perfect with Hell, if there is any:) )

Bone layer makes sense in that it's piles of bones of dead things dieing there. Makes sense to me. Flesh also can make some since depending on the planet and the life there. Think Mogo from the green lanterns. Sure he wasn't made of flesh, but a living and sentient planet.

I like the out-of-place layers. Really makes me go 'wtf' to myself, while I explore them in a combination of awe and uneasiness.

These layers give unique resources(Either in blocks or actual usable items for crafting), so they serve a game purpose beyond just cosmetics.

I personally hope we get more weird terrain.

Well, I for one don't play games because they are like reality. I have reality for that.

Because tentacles bursting out of the ground and eyeball forests are completely normal.

exactly! :) No really, Fauna and Flora may grow due to Evolution to any kind, but Planets should be still similar to what we know about them :)

Love the idea of these layers, wish there would be more of them and even creepier and morbid ones.

When I first came across a bone layer I was blown away. It's really awesome, sets quite an ominous theme I think. I love the crunching sound it makes as you walk on it too :). And the flesh biomes are quite alright.
I'm all for whatever content they want to stick in, as long as it's interesting and diverse, this isn't exactly a game that takes itself seriously. I mean, the first boss consists of sentient penguins with rocket launchers ffs, I think that sets the bar for absurdity pretty low.

I like these layers, I frist encountered flesh, bone and corrupted Dirt layers (all wiggled into each other) on a giant snow biome planet, at first i thought I came across some form of strange magmatic roc (and the red colored water there looked like strange poison) and I had a very odd feeling when seeing that it was flesh, instead of rock.
I like that, makes me think of a giant creature living underground, imobilisied by tons of rock and dirt above it, exsisting there for maybe hundreds of years before and to come

It gave me a idea about a universal or galactic boss planet sized or larger that is fully alive with fleshy parts inside and the creatures as big as its blood cells and wicked things. Monsterous teeth to get around in places.... i wonder if they had created that

Could be like the tier 8 or 9 boss. You put together a teleporter, and it warps you to a world made of flesh and teeth and tentacles, and the only way to win is to burrow in, fighting off monsters that are it's immune system, digging in to find it's organs and destroy them.

    Would be an amazing boss.

this explains everything and Flesh Layer makes sense now! :)
But truth is, that diving in water within this layer and using flash light was awesome experience, it looked fantastics

The flesh and bones layers are living planets! You are literally digging into it's guts!

I personally found a layer purely of "Soft Brick". Brick, with pixel containers in form of tiny lampposts and doll houses.

    Some weird shit I say.

I found that too. Remnants of an older smaller civilization? Or some screwed up mentally insane monsters lair....

Also, saying "we should keep what we know about the planets" is silly. Thats the great thing about space. We don't know jack about every planet. A living gigantic organism of a planet thay works like a multicellular organism is something I could see happening.

I... SUPPOSE.. your right and they do seem out of place.

    *scratches head*

However, I've seen many many sci fi series.. all startreks, all stargates, all babylon 5's, all Doctor Who's All Blakes7... etc etc... I have to say, organic matter is used in all manor of colourful ways leading myself to find it perfectly acceptable.

I mean.. the Vorlons use bio-tech in everything, as did the Wraith in SG-Atlantis.. so to me its not beyond the realms of imagination that bio-material could lose control and consume an entire planet.

I love them. This game is not really hard sci-fi, so I don't feel they are out of place.

It's one of those things where I feel the game is playing with my mood. I always feel uneasy and for some reason move more cautiously in the area. I'd say it's pretty integral for the exploration segment of the game and making you ask questions like "What the hell could've caused this?"
