Online only?

Anyone know if the game will require you to be online? I'd like to know before buying it. If it isn't, I'll be happier so I can put it on my laptop and play where there isn't any internet.

 

Nope. This is Confirmed there isn't any sort of online-DRM or other thing forcing you being online to use it, you can play Offline even in MultiPlayer > LAN Based.

 

The only thing that should (theorhetically) force you to be online is legitimate servers that are set to require valid accounts. Other than that, offline all the things!!!!

 

NO DRM. Even Steamworks DRM wont be u.sed

Servers have the option to be online or offline, for people that don't have registered accounts .

 

So there is no possibility to accidentally meet other Starbound players unless connected in some sort of multiplayer mode?

 

Yes. This isn't an always online multiplayer game like a MMO. It has both single-player and multiplayer but you have to connect to a server host for multiplayer like Terraria, or Counter-Strike.
I don't know if serious or necro troll, but I answered it seriously anyways!

@shepherd: the only ways to play with other people will be online and lan. So yes, you have to be connected in some kind of multiplayer-mode to... Er... Play multiplayer. While i'm writing this i'm asking myself if you were not serious about this question or if i didn't get your question... o.o

Well, I did search for the question, and found this thread. I haven't played Terraria. Please be nice to newbs.

I was curious if this game had player discovery similar to Journey on PS3.
