One Joined Starmap..

The concept in the post Tiy made about all the changes had me really excited, and all the changes do sound very good, except there is one that worries me slightly. The idea that all planets would be together on one starmap is good, yeah, and they said no more character wipes, so at least I know my character and my ship are safe for now, but is there any word on how, if at all, they can combine the star map WITHOUT wiping the universe files? I'd thought I read something about that as well, so I'd been going ahead and dumping hundreds of thousands of pixels into a castle, but if universes are probably going to be wiped again, I'd rather just be a nomad and hoard as much as I possibly can until the universe is stable enough to put effort into

 

I think they've said that they "hopefully" wouldn't have to wipe worlds again. I personally think that they will, but even so, it could possibly be months from now so i wouldn't worry too much about it.

 

My personal solution to this has been to create a standardised construction method that can be easily written on graph paper, and to build a base from which to go on my adventures under that system, while keeping anything I deem absolutely important in my inventory.

I imagine they are going to have to delete the universe again for that to work, at least based on how the system is currently set up. They might program themselves up a way past that. They may very well have too, as it's not exactly feasible to just... never alter universe generation again.

 

No, they did say no more character or ship wipes.

even if they promise no more wipes, there is always the possibility of more wipes. it's a fact of gaming and nothing can change it.

i usually take such days with amused indifference.

 

Boy it's good not to have to worry about any wipe-ness. Refreshing! Meaning I plan to wipe my own saves with big updates. I see no point in having a character at end-game now and using a twinked character to go back to go through all the new content, balancing, and tweaks. I'll just have a ship save backed up that will be a block bank to hold all my block collection. I'll reroll the world and everything else though, and just use the ship bank on a dummy character.
