It was mentioned in another post how the devs are implementing one-handed and two-handed weapons. One interesting thing I didn't see mentioned yet, though, would be 1.5 handed weapons. These are guns like the MP7, Mac-10, AK-74U, etc. These are guns that you can fire one handed or even one in each hand, but they are not as accurate as holding one in both hands and shouldering it with the butt-stock. This way you could pack say two small SMG's, and for general shooting use one on your shoulder. But if you get swarmed or jumped by something up close just fold up the stock and whip both of them out for increased damage output at the cost of accuracy beyond close range. Pistols, while having less damage and magazine capacity are much easier to point one-handed and duel-wielded since SMG's even at their smallest are much heavier than a normal sidearm. Point in case my training rifle has a side-folding stock, but firing that thing one-handed is just embarrassing as I wave the gun around like I'm drawing circles in the air.
Oh yea nice! And also 1.5 handed sword wich can be used in one-hand but are faster and stronger if you use in two-hand xD LOVE IT!
Yes, I'm actually surprised that this topic wasn't about melee weapons, considering how there are medieval swords that were precisely called "one-and-a-half-handed", as we say here in Spain. The so-called bastard sword is the best example. Short and light enough to be used with one hand, but big enough to pack nice power when used with two hands. And with this kind of sword could come other melee weapons. Anyways I guess melee weapons are not so important to have as both one-handed and two-handed, so I don't expect to see it, but it would still be nice, more options. Give me OPTIONS!
Hmm...Nice. Would offer more playstyle options to be juiced out of a single weapon - and since we're getting hundreds upon hundreds of possible weapons... Yea, I totally like it. Let Tiy know on nearest IRC session...
Nice option, and considering how people will want to switch mode of using perhaps even in battle, there should be a button to change handing of weapons, with two-three different weapon sets/ways of using them. So you can have a bastard sword and shield in set 1, a bastard sword(two-handed) in set 2 and a pistol and shield in set 3. To make it equillibrated, there could be a cooldown between each change, to avoid some sort of exploit in PvP.
Cooldown would be needed, yeah. I wouldn't like to see players switching like madmen from shooting to melee in a matter of miliseconds, and running all around jumping. Keep it real!
Oh that's an awesome idea. I remember seeing that we can only change gear back at our base so this could help alleviate some strain if we do come into a sticky situation with the wrong weapon.
More or less. If you left the base without preparing the "Two-Shield Set Style", but equipped with a 1.5 handed sword, you can count with changing the "stance" while using it, but NOT with the shields.
Honestly melee weapons never cross my mind. I base my posts off my real-life experience and it's very rare to see a melee weapon in combat except as an ultimate backup weapon. Example: The rifle is out of mags, the holster pistol is out along with its one or two spare mags, the pocket pistol is out, and if you're dumb enough to keep fighting instead of running at that point then you pull a knife. Even the Russians realized hand-to-hand doesn't work anymore and issue the Ballistic Knife (shoots blade with high-powered spring) to their soldiers, so even that is still a way to 'shoot' someone when out of ammo. And instead of relying on melee weapons when out of ammo most soliders just toss a few cans of rifle magazines in the hummvee with them when they go out anyway. Melee weapons just don't belong in the present and likely not in the future based off my experience. That said I know of the bastard sword. It was called that because many didn't know which style of fighting to train with it, at least what I heard second-hand. The bastard sword is the archetypical 1.5 handed melee weapon, you can have one swing faster and more precisely or yank out a second for extra damage I guess. Again I don't or think much about melee weapons.
Sorry, I did not mean to challenge your knowledge with my post. I know that in present times melee weapons have little use, or none at all, and that the future will still probably be like that. Melee just can't keep up with range, unless there are other series of technological advances to power up everything related to melee, but then again guns would have also improved by then. But still, leaving aside realism, melee weapons will be in the game, and will even have some elaborate system, so once we are sure that we'll be able to use them, better make them more fun and versatile. Of course the idea works for both melee and ranged weapons, and I would be delighted to see the 1.5 handed system on guns as well. As I said, give me options! P.S.: The name "bastard" sword probably comes both from the explanation you gave and from the fact that it is a cross between a longsword and a two-handed sword ^^
Please don't apologize, I am simply confused at most of the posts having people rave about melee weapons. I'm not annoyed or have angst, and I said it before in this forum the internet doesn't convey tone or the lack of tone most people include in body language. Back to topic wouldn't it be ungainly swinging two moderately long swords at once without some kind of muscle augmentation? Maybe a requirement of servos or powered armor to use larger weapons one-handed?
Well I believe the easiest way to restrain that kind of uses is to actually make only certain melee weapons 1.5 handed, and the bigger ones only 2 handed. Of course some servos or armors or DNAs or whatever could allow you to break these limits. It could work by weight, if items will have any weight at all, for instance, a specific robo-arm would allow you to use with one hand two-handed weapons of up to 3kg, things like that.
When I first read the title, I was thinking to myself "What on Earth is a 1.5 handed weapon?" Now it makes sence. The idea is great, and most players would like something like this in-game. I would use both hands for a weapon of greater damage, while stick to dual-wielding with faster shooting weapons.
I wonder if you'll be able to use both guns at the exact same time! I also wonder if I'll get a chance to recreate the beginning scene of The Matrix....
I like the idea of 1.5 hand weapons, but they should 'fire' slower than a one-handed weapon. They also have the advantage of dealing more damage, just not as much as a two-handed weapon.
Really good idea i really like it but they just cant put everything to the game what we want (i want a lots of stuff too)
