one cool (very) random thing that was in pokemon that could be in this.

remember how, in the pokemon starter town, there was a pond that you could surf across once you had almost beaten the game and find a new area? i loved how you could see progression so close to starting up the game. with the new spaceship images coming into the forums, i noticed that rear engines are added with additional vertical levels. it would be really cool if there was a gravity field that was right near your first planet that was a custom, not randomly generated level 70-80 that you could only access with a certain amount of ship engines.

    (tldr) gotta catch'em all, POKEMON!

I like that idea, although I feel like I would never go back to where I started and travel until I found the ideal planet.

There needs to be an old man lying down in the middle of the road.

That drove me nuts as a kid, the man says you can't pass until he's had his coffee, so I would go fight some pokemon, walk in circels, go say hi to mom, think it has been long enough to finish his coffee, go back, discover he hadn't yet finished, flip out, start over. That nonsense about having to deliver oaks parcel was stupid and unclear to a 6 year old.

Pokemon was the first RPG I'd ever played and I didn't understand the concept of "quests"...a friend had to explain it and then do it for me. I felt the dumbs.

OT: this is actually a cool idea. Perhaps the "bad guys" live on a planet right near your old homeworld.

I was 6, and it was my first RPG too. I remember my parent's got me a teal gameboy and pokemon blue, I was so excited. I ripped open the packaging, ran to my seat and started to play. I then proceeded to get really sad... because I didn't know how to get out of the house. I cried because the gift my parents, was upsetting me, and they wanted me to be happy. About an hour later, my uncle came over and was like "No see, doors are marked by little welcome mats" and showed me how to leave my house.

Don't feel bad, quests seem super complex compared to leaving your house.
