Well... I took another look and noticed those amazing trousers (!). But I'm not really interested in starter pets.

    ...

Them trousers, where are they from? Mod? Want.

You're saying that like the devs would even use mods when they could just implement features instead, heheh.

I think since the starter pets were part of those donation goals I think those won't be added until the game is released like the Novakids. Not 100% certain though.

They evidently use them to some extent since they've implemented some (skyrails come to mind) as actual features.

Let's hope this doesn't cause yet more performance problems. I'm waiting for this update to finally start playing.

is there another tier coming? it doesnt explicitly say so in the update. about a month ago i told myself id stop playing til the next new tier because, well, there isnt much to do yet and i didnt want to get bored of the game.

if there isnt a new tier in this next 'huge' update, i cant say its unexpected since we did just have holidays, but id be lying if i said i wasnt disappointed for waiting more.

Comparing the current SB to a finished Terraria or even first released Terraria Version isn't even logical. Currently we are in Stage 1 of 3 with even knowing that much time will pass till we reach Stage 2, what should be rather feature complete. The current Sector model is even a placeholder and will go away. Even a Universe whipe could still happen because i suppose there will be much done. Much of the actuall content is still missing at this point and thus you very much skip those Tiers very fast.

At this point we still can't really tell anything about SB other than testing it and helping to shape it's direction. We have clearly seen that nothing has been set in stone and is likley to change..maybe multiiple times.

Your points would be valid if it stays this way till the end of Stage 3 but until then you points are far from reasonable.

Seems many people just read "beta" and thought of a nearly complete game without ever having read the Stage 1-3 part. You get the impression while reading most "negativ" posts. Maybe it's also because i have been following development for so long that i know that the game can't be judged at the moment.. Many "features" are even locked out currently.

The only thing i was impressed by is that the game was very solid and playable from the start. Many AAA Titles don't even come close to this. As for the current state of the game...it was clear that it would be this way.

That's too be expected tho, as SB (compared to most of the AAA titles out there) is extremely simplistic. And after 3 years of development and even showing streams of the game for over a year, it would be downright catastrophic if it wasn't even playing moderatly well  And I've also been following the development for quite some time, and most of what I've seen is stuff being made more and more simplistic and un-imaginative all the way thrue it.

To be fair, the Steam Store page includes the words ''extremely playable'' (not with this graphical lag it isn't) and doesn't say anything about the stages. It could be constituted as misleading, but I guess that ''Early Access'' tag precludes all accusations. Really, I wonder why the game had to be released in this sort of paid closed beta stage. Were they out of money in this last stretch or something?

It's a valid comparison of development cycles. Terraria's dev team (which inexplicably included Tiy, as I understand it) accomplished considerably more in considerably less time for a game of absolutely comparable style and, at this stage, magnitude (you're blind if you can't see that the 'grand scope' of starbound basically amounts to circumventing the main screen-> load world part of Terraria). As much as anything the argument is that it's sort of ludicrous that with all the time and all the money (I realize money can't fix all problems, but hiring a bigger team can do a lot), it's kind of absurd that Starbound has only barely limped across the line into phase 1 beta. Bearing in mind that this team also seems continually confused as to the direction they're even taking the game (as others in this thread and elsewhere have pointed out), it really just goes to show we've all contributed money to a directionless, disorganized company who have virtually no idea what they're doing.

Tl;dr I realize this is beta, it's just the fact that they've had more time and far more money up to this point in the dev cycle than Terraria, and produced considerably less. I'm honestly at a loss as to how people can play this nonstop, I have less than 6 hours in and, even without the impending wipe deterring me, I can't really be bothered to play any more. There's no point, and nothing to do except things I could do more satisfactorily in Terraria.

It does say in the info on how the beta will work that the majority of features have been disabled while beta testing and optimization is being done. You don't have access to the source code, you don't know what's in it. Please don't talk like you do. You're not a coder on this game, the game isn't open source.

So going by the info that we have, most likely they have far more features already coded and ready to be put in the game than are in the released version currently. First they need to do optimization and bug fixing for the features they do have in, like multiplayer servers; huge memory leak problem there; ship coding; still bugs with the beaming down to the planet, such as beaming underground, and not always beaming to the planet when you select it; world generation, and other such things. It totally makes sense the way they are doing it, releasing small bits at a time and bug fixing those bits before they release more.
