Sad face. Can we at least get a sneak peek at what the other expanded ships look like? Dying to see the glitch or Avian

 

The predefined structures are the dungeons sadly. I too find it lack luster in it's current state but we don't have a finished product so I am still hopeful the avian temples/towers, labs, human camps, and the other structures they have planned will be fun, challenging, and rewarding. The tiersystem is currently bland as well, but I won't say anything more. It can still change so it could be better!

 

Luckily, Grim Dawn got new update right around the wipe announcement, so I've been keeping busy with that.

 

Notice that I said "goes public" instead of "released." I said that because early access is still public. There's really not a good reason that the "we can't update without wiping" should've ever happened in anything but an in-house build, it's pretty sloppy for something supposedly as far along in development as beta implies.

Also, I don't know how much interaction you've done with people "in person" but hostility is pretty common. All of my goodwill for this community was burnt up during the debates over the tier revision where they took out what little diversity planets in a tier did have, and then the "wood is no longer fuel" unannounced change, where questioning either of those decisions was met with derision that went on for pages. In every topic, whether I was there or not. So it's not just me!

Also, Zekk really hit the nail on the head. Nothing about Starbound actually feels in any way epic or grand in scope. It's just an endless expanse of Terraria worlds, only with worse caverns to make going underground really off-putting. So it's like an endless expanse of Terraria worlds' surfaces. Which is just boring. +1 to the lackluster dungeons, too. It wouldn't be so bad if they had even one meaningful piece of loot, each.

 

You know what? I don't care. I even dare say, WE don't care, because ships aren't the main part of our game after all. Don't get me wrong, of course we need them and all stuff, but seriously. Ship upgrades? Now? Only a spoiled child would need those right away. Personally I think that it shouldn't be much problem to anyone, because there're much more important stiff to tweak and bugs to fix. We all can wait, so don't you worry.

 

Sweeeeet, hope it hits this weekend so I can start playing again.

This update is looking better and better by the minute. Well, apart from it not having ship upgrades, but I hadn't really expected that ship upgrades would be in this update anyway. Probably the nicest feature for me will be (if implemented) the small size updates. So I don't have to redownload the game after each update. Downloading hundreds of megabytes repeatedly where I live is extremely effective at tempering my enthusiasm for this game, haha.

 

It all just makes me wonder what's happened with the game over these past couple of years. It's pretty clear, now, that the early development stages were a -lot- rockier than they looked. Two years and fifteen million dollars, I admit, it hasn't put out what I expected.. primarily because I expected things that we saw in pre-beta screenshots to actually be planned features in the game. But I'm not knocking it. After all this time, I think they've finally got more of an idea of what they can do, and how they can do it, than they ever had. I just hope the game doesn't become a shadow of what they wanted to make when they started this project just for the sake of actually putting something on the table.

 

I am always...so amazed...at how different people's perspectives are! I am absolutely loving this game, and at the same time I'm loving it there are people going "meh" or even absolutely hating it. It's just crazy to me how differently we all experience things. And speaking of experiencing things, I had never played Terraria before SB, but I kept hearing them being compared (SB is Terraria in space and the like) so I bought Terraria last week and spent a few days playing it. Besides the side-scrolling, I don't really get the comparison. SB is wayyyyyyy better, and Terraria is Minecraft in 2D. Of course, that is merely the perspective I have based on the experience I have had with the games. I'm sure, absolutely certain in fact, that others will not agree.

 

I believe the primary reason people have a preference for Terraria is that Terraria picks up more and more the further along you get. You have a sense of progression, and, objectively, the game is well-paced. For a game to be well-recieved, it needs good end-game, since people who like it will want a reason to keep playing and playing. Terraria has good end-game. Starbound's end-game is basically a pile of ideas and a skeleton at the moment. I'm confident it will be better. It's just not.. yet.

 

I think the pacing of SB will improve as they add in more quests and more tiers. There is just so much yet to put in the game! I am so excited to get more quests...I wonder if we'll get some with this patch?

 

I think this sums up a lot of my feelings. They did a great job over the past year of making the game look a lot more complete than it was, through dev streams and screenshot mockups and the like. It's just really disappointing that a lot of those awesome things are looking like they won't actually be in, at this point. And it's disheartening to see how hollow it actually is, two years into development, after millions of dollars have poured in. There's just not a lot of game to show for it.

 

Well actually. . .

I got a some derision, but I also got a ton of likes and a good amount of support. I also found that a good amount of the disagreements I got later on were less volatile.

What I'm saying is that your own attitude decides how you are received. Doesn't matter if it is online or in the real world. Hostility is received with hostility. Sometimes staying calm is as well, but, if you stay calm, there's at least a chance of calming the other party and having a discussion.

Meanwhile, if you make claims without bothering to back them, cuss unnecessarily, and take a generally hostile demeanor while indirectly insulting every person you're talking to while dismissing them as rabid fanboys. . .

Well, you're going to get the same amount of respect from them that you've given them.

That is to say: none.

 

We're gonna have REVOLVERS in the next patch...

 

The insults were unnecessary, the mod just snipped them out. The edit pretty much still says your point. It's still the idea of your opinion. Or did you still mean something different? Saying it more nicely might help.
