Old Character save still in directory?

After the character wipe my new character is on a terrible planet so I thought I would just make a new character, hoping he would get a better planet. Seems it doesn't work that way though as both characters are on the same hellish planet. I went into my save player files to delete the second character I made and found that I have player saves for three characters. So my pre-wipe character's data is still on my computer? I'm not 100% as all three characters I've made I named the same but I found this interesting.
