The meteor did happend only when you're on the planet i think and only the area you're at.

The meteors will find you. And they will not stop only striking you and nothing else.

    Ha brilliant!

From what I have heard best meteor proof bases are on the east side of a mountain underground.
All meteor showers fall from right corner. Also idk if this helps or not, but try using stronger material.

LOLz that's why they give you a ship and can be upgrade in future (it's your primary home).

I have a feeling these meteors you all are talking about are different than the meteor shower I experienced... that one sure ripped up the terrain, but it wouldn't have even come close to a shallow sub-terrain base. I'm... now kind of concerned for when I do get hit by one of these

Bur even then, of you aren't deep underground, with enough meteor showers, they would eventually break through.

According to GeorgeV he likes Harvest Moon. However, because he's only a Pixel Dev and not a Code Cowboy, he programmed it backwards, and now the Moons harvest you.

do hard materials make a difference?

They do against the small-ish meteors that do damage and break 1-3 blocks.

Right now, nothing protects against World Smashers, the gigantic meteors that take out half a screen (~30 blocks).

    some meteor facts

every 2nd weather effect has a 3% chance of being small meteors

every 3rd weather effect has a 1% chance of being large meteor(s)

it has been proven that they spawn just off screen

they will happen on any planet

they can be turned off, but it is dangerous for you game files to do so, so save a backup if you even want to try

I wonder if you make your house big enough will the meteors spawn inside? Like if your house reaches well off screen to the side and up?

yeah a guy build a giant dome and they spawned inside of it

ive been in three meteor strikes and all three times i was randomly exploring a huge planet (7 minutes in) and then meteors will instant kill me

its the most hilarious but harsh game of dodge ball ever played

It does and will spawn off-screen regardless of what is on-screen.. That means it can spawn inside your meteor shield, inside your house, and inside your underground base! It does not need open air to spawn.. If it does spawn inside terrain, it will explode immediately upon spawning making a hole inside the mountain with bits of meteor lining the edges.. I once had the "fortune" of having 5 World-Ender class meteors drop on me the first time I attempted the Bone Dragon boss.. My arena was destroyed and so was a massive chunk of the mountain it was built upon.. So if it is only 1% chance of having 1 of them spawn... What are the odds of having 5 drop at once? I have seen them drop 1 at a time many times before and a couple times of having 2 drop.. I have never seen 5 drop at once before or after that event.. Also, I would like to note that I have yet to play multiplayer.. That means it couldn't have been griefers with meteor guns.. (Yes, I have read some of the posts about griefer problems and almost non-existant administrative tools to moderate servers..)

When I was exploring a planet, I was just going off screen to check out a cave. I mined some things. then kept going. I decided to beam back because I was running low on things. and when I spawned there was this massive hole at spawn.... Meteors. They DO NOT care where they land. also I had a meteor on my wheat field :p

Also what I like to do is build near the core of the planet. as its easy to get up once you need to surface. (jump in for a bath).

Haven't seem one, but I heard someone mention that planets with craters in the background are prone to meteors. My starter planet had craters, so I ran away immediately

From my experience, planets in a system with an asteroid field are prone to meteor strikes.. I scan all the planets in a system for an asteroid field.. When I see that there are none, then I begin checking for which planet looks most habitable in said system.. If I see an asteroid field, I label that system under NOPE..
