Oil, sweet sweet oil...

Where are you when I need you most?, what is the most sitable planet for oil?

 

Avoid googling the stuff, the Starbound wikis have malicious virus pop ups, but here are notes I have taken in my laborious progression.

Crafting Table - Stone Furnace - Iron Anvil - Iron Furnace - Metalwork Station - Robotic crafting table - Magnetic Crucible - Replicator
Replicator- Accelerator
Replicator- Manipulator
Replicator- Separator
Core Fragments - Core
Iron - Core
Steel = Iron + Oil
Oil = Desert
Diamond - Core
Titanium - Moderate
Uranium - Radioactive
Aegisalt, Rubium, Violium - Cold
Solarium - Magma, Volcanic

 

Oil is found in plenty on desert planets. Either on the surface n a tar pit biome,or underground.
