Oh the false promises!

and obviously, all the promises about friendly community and stuff, how can you promise that on an open server?

I'd take it more as a generalization, the implication is probably that the regular player base is friendly. I'd generalize the community of the server I'm on to be friendly, there's the occasional bad sheep, but still.

I can at least say that from what I've seen so far, the Starbound community is far less toxic than the Minecraft community has become.

 

Because Minecraft is now dominated by little kids. MineCon's gone from being primarily young adults to primarily kids with their parents. Hopefully Starbound doesn't go down that route.

As for the OP, whining about a server occasionally being down is like whining about the laws of physics.

 

I don't see it as a false promise as no where in there does it say "We promise friendly servers".

If you've got friendly admins and mods who keep it clean and take the trash out as needed you can have some pretty friendly places.

Sure you'll always get people who don't see eye to eye or share the same opinion but such is life.

He's pretty obviously complaining about the server being offline when the description says 100% uptime, as he cropped out the rest in his screenshot. His most says "and obviously", meaning the stuff about friendliness is an addendum.

 

He's not wrong. Servers always go down eventually even if it's to switch to another server so to say 100% uptime and be offline is a huge contraditcion. That being said I only accept the premise of 100% uptime being you may get booted but it's still up running on a backup server now, so at no point should it ever be "down" or show offline.

It's not OP fault they are false advertising. However, community is kind of a majority term. I live in a friendly community but my neighbor is still a jerk. But the majority of the people I live around are friendly. I would still describe the community as friendly.

 

All multiplayer is pointless unless you play with like 3 friends... Thanks to 0 server protection public servers are the wild west for griefers i don't blame the devs though i blame the people because this game is for us and it goes to show how many assholes play this game... People grief simply because they can crash servers lag spawn dc people why not right just because they can...

 

Except it's a marketing term, not a literal description. Tons and tons of online services use the phrase "100%" uptime; it just means "we're nearly almost always up". If you're down for a few minutes each year with 99.999% uptime, you might as well just round up say 100%. Of course for web services they are promising compensation for that .001% downtime, so there's a difference, but it's still just a term.

 

I'm not complaining as I don't even play on that server. I just find it funny to put the false promise so close to the online status icon.

Okay so...

- you do not play on that server, yet have a reason to rant about their advertisement banner; though, I give you that, they should've been ahead of this crap and used 99.9% instead (to avoid wisenheimers like you)
- you state that their community is not "friendly and stuff", even though (see above) you are not a part of said community in the first place
- you really think a company of whatever sort would go and use a sentence like "Come to us, we have the most toxic, newbie-unfriendly, agressive and evil community you ever played with!" as advertisement?
- you open a topic on a forum that is about a game you might or might not rent a server for at that company (we can't tell, thanks to your image-crop-fu), yet has nothing to do with the offered product apart of that

In the end.. uhm.. yeah, what's the point of this thread again?
