Oh home button, why the hate?

So I'm surprised to find out people hating on a home planet button. I know it's rough at the moment, but it's likely only a placeholder during beta. At least until a better mechanism to enjoy the fruits (literally) of your exploration of distant star systems.

Expressing your distaste is one thing to show feedback. Try to separate the useful from comments and hate words like easy and casual. It's just an ease of access feature to test more facets of the game in a shorter time.

Fruits of exploration? That's a nice title to give PUSHING A BUTTON.

maybe some ppl, including me, just think its dumbing down the core mechanic of the game.
getting fuel is part of spacetravelling.. but ppl started to complain about how hard it is to find coal and how expensive it is to reach your homeworld cos of that.

i personally cant agree to the fact that coal is hard to find and now we are even able to regrow trees so fuel shouldnt be even less of a problem

but to be honest: i dont care.. if you need that button then use it,, i am personally drwoning in all kind of ores.. i always did...

I have no gripes about it because I see it as a placeholder for another system that will appeal more to the hardcore players. Also, it gives some sort of purpose to having a home world when before there was literally no reason to set one.

Then again, I see just about everything in this game as placeholder for further development.

It's in to incentivize building. Without it there was no good reason to make a base unless you had multiple characters you wanted to share items across. Especially with wipes.

This is bad because building is supposed to be a large part of this kind of game, and if the majority of your testers aren't building because there's no incentive to do so, you can't test it.

I get the hate. It provides something for nothing. I don't think it really causes many problems, but the old guard in any game are always going to resist free ease of access. It's seen as dumbing down the game.

However, in this case, the old guard needs to realize that this was necessary to make core systems usable.

Maybe eventually they'll attach a cost to it, such as a crafted beacon, but I highly doubt it's going away.

You'd be better served lobbying for that rather than merely dismissing it.

I don't get 'upset' about it, but it does seem to fly in the face of the other world mechanics they've made.

What point is there in the Starbound universe to me digging for fuel if my ship is somehow capable of instantaneously transporting me across the galaxy to my home planet? I appreciate I can just not use the feature, but I think it would make more sense if they made the feature require something like a teleport beacon, made out of some mid-level ore/bars. This would stop it from being the immediate advantage that people are complaining about, while still allowing the feature and having it align with the expectations laid out by the universe mechanics so far.

It is very silly to think that a spaceship has the ability to instantly transport you to ONE planet of your choosing at any given point in time, but is incapable of instantly transporting you to every other planet in the universe. At least, it's silly to think that if you're not required to make a beacon of some sort for the teleport pad to lock on to.

All that said, I still don't understand why people get so upset about it -- it's a button, you don't have to use it...

I woulda welcomed your input in the other thread, bro.
To be fair, people are allowed to dislike the feature. Some of them could simply express such dislike a little better, that's all.

I personally am going to wait and see how the system turns out. Who says this is the final implementation? In the future it might be a tech unlock, it might have a cost; it might even be removed.
If they make homeworlds a bigger aspect (with full villages, planets that you can sink hours into cultivating, etc.) then this homeworld teleport will be pretty much vital. If not, most will either never venture far from their homeworld, or just won't make one in the first place.
Remember it is a new thing, and is most likely not travelling alone. I foresee more features tied into this.

People throw out hate when they logically know that the change is a good thing, but don't want the change for illogical reasons, and thus they can't come up with anything logical to say except that they hate the change in question. Which, by the way, having to include 'hardcore', 'casual', or any similar meanings in the argument instantly makes said argument illogical and a moot point.

    Also ...
The most logical reasoning would be that you can't teleport to a planet you don't have a 'hard lock' on, such as the planet you're directly orbiting or, surprise, the one you set as your home, which is now locked in to your nav system. This is, of course, an opinion, as are all things related to 'immersion', but if you're playing the game for that then you should be used to weaving your own tales into the game to make sense of things that do not.

An issue with it is people that have issues with their teleporter working. Because of the home button there's now an issue with going through a menu every time you want to use the teleporter.
I USED to have said issues.

Except there's a teleporter button in the top right that can be used at any time without bringing up said menu, because it always takes you down to the planet you're at.
