So that the forums are now up...

In this thread, we can discuss everything directly or indirectly related to vast procedurally generated fauna and flora of Starbound.

Pets, mounts, bosses; trees, flowers, herbs...
All the discussion goes in here!

Right now we can only speculate, but sooner or later...

    We will see...
They probably are boss-esque enemies with ~30,000 of HP, but...
    Worth the effort... (Planetary Strike...)

If one of these things ever attacked me I would just call an exterminatus on the planet.

I really hope they implement farming in this too.
The first thing I made in terraria was a greenhouse to supply my alchemy.
And I loved how all the different plants needed different conditions to yield seeds.

I hope Starbound implements a farming system that is as good or better than terraria.

    The tree planet looks gorgeous.

    "Official"? :p
Well it's much better than to have a hundred threads with the same questions/comments!

I'm expecting huge plants that eat monsters... and players.
Maybe thorny vines, too. Heh, jungle planet.

It'd also be interesting to have poisonous plants that could be gathered to create nasty chemicals.

I was in the IRC when they answered that, but I didn't see that last response from Legris!

    My previous statement is RETRACTED!

One giant man-eating venus fly trap thing. Maybe robo plants. That would be awesome

A world of completely mechanical organisms would be pretty sweet.

That or an abandoned and overgrown ecumenopolis replete with mutated and dangerous creatures.

Pretty sure I have seen a few pictures with various slimes. However, will there be combat in the vast emptiness of space?

ER... Did I say rule the universe? Ha I meant HELP the universe!

A creature i'm hoping for is a kind of chameleon shape-shifter dealy. Starts of disguised as a tree or rock and right when you let your guard down boom ambush.

    1. Creatures of pure energy, both benevolent and malicious. Immune to most conventional weapons, they should be real pain to handle, requiring to change your tactics and equipment to fight them.

    Threat level: high.

    2. World of sapient trees. These trees should look just as usual ones do, at least at start. If player cuts them down, some hidden meter probably called "TreeGrudge" goes up. If player plants them back, it goes down, and it also goes down gradually. It ignores cutting and planting of trees from other planets, and trees taken from this planet may or may not bring their grudge to other worlds.

Anyway, when grudge is high enough, trees begin to damage passing players occassionally. At first it is like "huh?", "what was that? probably a glitch". Later, when grudge is even higher, trees begin to move. At first slowly, and perhaps even only when they are not on player's screen, and gradually increasing speed and ferocity. Also trees damage goes more powerful, also damaging trees "snare" or "slow" passing players and maybe NPCs. Trees begin to grow both in size and in number. New monsters spawn: they look like trees and can be disguised as them, but they are kinda tough and aggressive, probably even able to destroy your buildings and/or transform artificial bricks to grassed dirt, to grow more trees there.

Some NPC of dryad-like (in form, not in function as in Terraria dryad) sort can help him to understand situation. Negative grudge score is also possible, but hard to get, probably by combination of tree-hugging hippie behavior and dryad quests completion. If grudge is noticeably negative, then sapient trees begin to help player. At first by healing him when he is nearby. Later - by providing light at nighttime, soft mellow glow. Even later - by spawning benevolent monsters and providing with free wood material and various fruits.

There are several possible outcomes in contact with this world.

First, idealistic: player finds that trees are sapient and tries to make a "truce". He stops destroying natural forests and maybe even plants some artificial preserves to calm down the grudge. After a while, trees calm down and player can live in peace on this planet.

Second, realistic: player says "what the fudge?" and flies out. That's okay.

Third, intended: player by his actions turns potentially hospitable world in a nightmare. His base crumbles under relentless floral assault, and he either flees as in second outcome, or says "oh no you don't" and burns this world down, killing all native trees. It should be noted that the more trees he cuts the higher grudge he gets. This last patch of greenery may be defended by such ferocious creatures that only some sort of orbital nuclear strike can handle it.

Threat level: variable, possibly 100, but only if player makes it so.

there will be dragons! Rho has promised me that at some point, dragons will be in this game, but that animation for them would be difficult, and thus will take time <still dying of the happy>
